🐮This past weekend we had our spring cow clinic!🐮
Our members started off the first half of the day learning about body placement in reining. They practiced spins, lope circles, and rundowns. After some delicious burgers for lunch, they rounded up the cattle in the field so they could work them during the second half of the day. To learn about cow placement they started with flag work and then got to apply that learning on the cattle! They all took turns boxing and working a cow.

⭐️Highlights from our Spring show⭐️

There are so many things to celebrate from our first spring show! All of our athletes that competed—horses and riders—gave it their all and had a blast doing so! 🎉

By competing in Western States Stock Horse, we had the opportunity to attend a clinic covering all four stock horse events before competing in them the following two days. Our athletes received guidance from professionals in the industry on their patterns and received some homework for next time as well.

🧡A HUGE accomplishment for our club🧡
We hosted our first ever collegiate tournament!!
This gave our riders the opportunity to meet students from other schools that also enjoy competing in stock horse. It made the weekend that much better, and we hope to see them again in the near future!

We competed tournament style in collegiate ASHA divisions. Our members placed as follows:

Collegiate Amateur High Point All Around
Champion: Ani Husaby on Hickory One Time Cat

Collegiate Limited Amateur High Point All Around
Champion: Callie Parr on ET Excalibur
Reserve Champion: Mira Bybee on TM Starbert Seven

Collegiate Novice High Point All Around
Champion: Brooke Switzer on Starlets Sparkle
Reserve Champion: Jennifer Picarazzi on Rowdy Daddy

Ani Husaby placed in the Top 2 for All Around Amateur in Western States Stock Horse

This past weekend we hosted our first ever collegiate tournament, and it was a huge success!🎉
We’d like to thank each and every rider that came and participated in our tournament….some traveling 8 hours!!
We are so grateful that we were able to put this together and look forward to not only hosting more, but attending more collegiate tournaments in the years to come!

Our members had another great ride night at the Hartley’s! We focused on transitions and placement in our circles for reining and were given tips for tracking a cow. We appreciate their time and knowledge as we are inching closer to our Collegiate tournament in May! 🙌

The member we are introducing this week is Paige Rhoden! Paige is a senior and this is her 4th year in the club! She has two horses, Potential Favorite (Raya) and Mo Gold Oakie (Indie)!

🧡 Get to know Paige🧡
“Hi I’m Paige! I’m an art history major and this is my last year at OSU and with the stock horse club. I’ve had the opportunity to serve as this club’s vice president, president and now secretary. I’m so lucky to have been able to see how much it’s grown! My main competition horse is Raya, my 6 year old solid paint mare whom I use for stock horse, eventing and anything in between. Although I do have my other semi-retired QH mare, Indie, who’s carried me through years of 4h and OHSET. If you can’t tell I love my red mares haha!”

The member we are introducing this week is Cami Nicholson! Cami is a third year kinesiology major planning on perusing physical therapy. This is her second year in the club with her horse Flame!

“I recently changed my major from elementary education to kinesiology but am excited for the future! I grew up in Eugene Oregon and rode when I was little, took a break, then got back into it about 6 years ago!”

🐴 What are you hoping to gain from the club?🐴
“My goals for joining the club was making some great friends and experience some amazing opportunities throughout! I wanted to be able to ride with others as well as shows and clinics. I’m hoping to grow in my knowledge and make lifelong memories!”

✨Monday Member Spotlight ✨

The member we are introducing this week is Madison Gray! Madison is a second year but senior status, majoring in animal science with a pre-vet track! This is her second year in the club with her horse Tito and Harvey!

🧡 Get to know Madison🧡
“I am a pre-veterinary student here at OSU and will be attending OSU’s Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine in the Fall! I grew up in Albany, OR, and showed in 4-H and OHSET. I have more experience in English and showjumping but competed a little bit of everything in high school.”

🐴 What are you hoping to gain from the club?🐴
“I joined stock horse to have a community of riders here at OSU to keep me motivated to ride my horse. I have really enjoyed the chill atmosphere of the team and the positive attitudes of the members. I look forward to getting Tito (my 2-year-old) some exposure this year and starting him on cows!”
