“We often view career ladders as vertical. In reality, the most interesting careers look like jungle gyms.”

As graduation approaches, students may be feeling the pressure of taking “the perfect first step” following months of recruiting. For those students, Stacy Sukov Blackman ’99 MBA has a reminder:

“An MBA is a long-game investment,” she says. “You aren’t just building a resume; you are building the optionality to change your mind, change your industry and change the world — multiple times over.”

Check out the five lessons Stacy’s learned from the thousands of MBA journeys she’s witnessed during her 25-year career and as host of her podcast, “B-Schooled.”

“What strikes me about the Kellogg community is the sheer number of people who genuinely care about sustainability and the shared belief that business can be a powerful force for progress.”

Hannah Gould ’26 Two-Year Program came to Kellogg to build a well-rounded business toolkit and deepen her sustainability skill set. The Abrams Climate Academy has played a central role in helping her reach that goal.

A yearlong fellowship that connects graduate students across Northwestern, the Abrams Climate Academy deliberately creates an interdisciplinary cohort to approach climate challenges from multiple angles. Throughout the year, Fellows learn directly from the sustainability leaders shaping the energy transition while also gaining hands-on experience by partnering with one of seven companies to consult on climate business challenges.

As a member of the inaugural cohort, community has been the heart of Hannah’s experience. Hear directly from her and some of her peers on how the program reinforces the importance of climate work.

Congratulations to the Kellogg students who won this year’s Turner MIINT Competition, bringing home the $50,000 Moelis Family Prize for best overall impact investment.

Gibb Anella ’27 Two-Year MBA, Paul Esslinger ’27 Two-Year MBA, Richa Jatia ’26 One-Year MBA, Liusine Khachumova ’26 Two-Year MBA and Kunal Vats ’27 Two-Year MBA earned the top prize for their presentation of Brisil Technologies Private Limited, an India-based company working to make silica production greener and more sustainable.

Over the six-month competition, the team took on the role of impact investors by developing a climate adaptation and resilience thesis, sourcing and evaluating startups, conducting due diligence and presenting an early-stage investment recommendation to an expert judging panel.

A well-earned recognition for the team and a meaningful milestone for impact investing at Kellogg.

Now in its 33rd year, the Kellogg Leadership & Governance Conference invited global CEOs and board directors to campus for a rare closed-door discussion among peers navigating complex, high-stakes challenges in business and society.

This year’s program featured Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JPMorganChase; Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines; Dan Schulman, CEO of Verizon; and Brett Leatherman, Assistant Director of the FBI Cyber Division.

Our exceptional moderators, including Jason Birnbaum, CIO, United Airlines; Drew Bagley, chief privacy and policy officer, CrowdStrike; Andrea Redmond, board director, Allstate; and Roxanne Austin, president and CEO, Austin Investment Advisors, steered the conversation with probing questions that elicited candid answers from their CEO leaders.

Discussions spanned AI-driven competitive advantage, AI and cyber risk as an enterprise risk – including threats from within, and how the current global environment is shaping business decisions, reinforcing the interconnected challenges leaders face today.

Executives and directors representing nearly 250 boards participated, bringing perspectives from industries across the global economy to the Kellogg campus in Evanston.

At the intersection of marketing, analytics and AI, Alex Schultz offered Kellogg students a look at what it takes to lead in tech today.

Kellogg welcomed Schultz, CMO and VP Analytics at Meta, for a fireside chat moderated by Professor Nils Wernerfelt. The conversation covered his path from SEO to senior leadership, the connection between marketing and analytics, AI’s impact on advertising and the skills future marketers will need in a rapidly changing industry.

His visit also included a session with Kellogg faculty through the Ad-Tech Research Lab, where discussions centered on research, measurement and the future of digital advertising.

We’re grateful to Schultz for sharing his insights with the Kellogg community.

Two Kellogg professors. One global list recognizing rising stars in MBA education.

Congratulations to William Brady, assistant professor of management and organizations, and Jacob Teeny, associate professor of marketing, who have been named to Poets&Quants’ “World’s Best 40-Under-40 MBA Professors of 2026” list.

Brady studies how psychology and technology shape emotion, morality and group behavior. Teeny explores how persuasion, influence and communication are evolving in the AI era.

Before David Schwimmer was cast in "Friends," he was a Northwestern student with an idea, $3,000 in Bar Mitzvah money and enough conviction to rent a theater off campus.

That first self-produced show became an early lesson in entrepreneurship, collaboration and persistence. Years later, Schwimmer would go on to co-found Lookingglass Theatre Company, building an ensemble rooted in shared ownership, creative risk-taking and trust.

In a recent fireside chat at Kellogg, Schwimmer reflected on the nonlinear path from student dreamer to actor, director and entrepreneur. Even after the life-changing success of “Friends,” he remained grounded in the ensemble mentality that shaped his early career.

“Over the years, what I found was that this group of people has made me feel the most like myself. They became the antidote to an often ego-driven industry,” Schwimmer said.

For Kellogg students, the conversation offered a candid look at what it means to lead with purpose, stay true to your values and build something that lasts.

Connection is your first Kellogg milestone 🤝

With 30+ global destinations to choose from and an annual tradition that keeps everyone’s background a secret, every KWEST trip begins with a little mystery. These signature pre-orientation trips are an opportunity for incoming students to form deep and genuine connections before classes begin in the fall.

Margie Sosa ’27 JD, MBA Program took it one step further by signing up for the 2025 KWEST mystery trip. She and her fellow KWESTees stayed in the dark about their final destination until a connecting flight announcement told them they were headed to Oman.

Watch Margie’s recap video to see how Oman became the backdrop for connection and community.

AI: Find it, bottle it, scale it ✅

Professor Birju Shah was a featured speaker at the 2026 Miami Tech Summit where he joined Javi Borges, Global and Americas Media & Entertainment Sector Leader at EY, for a fireside chat on using AI effectively and responsibly.

Their conversation offered actionable advice on topics such as proving humanity to AI agents, distinguishing predictive AI from truly creative work and Professor Shah’s “find it, bottle it, scale it” framework for driving real impact with AI.

Kellogg was proud to be one of the sponsors of this year’s Miami Tech Summit which annually brings top minds together to address the most pressing questions in U.S. technology policy.

A KWEST trip, 12 wedding guests and one very Kellogg story of community. 💜

For Anand Chatterjee ’27 Two-Year Program and his wife, KWEST Colombia brought together a group of classmates who quickly became friends. From shared hikes to meaningful conversations, the trip created bonds that lasted well beyond the experience.

Months later, that same group showed up again. This time, they traveled from Texas, Boston, Chicago, New Jersey and India to celebrate Anand and his wife’s wedding.

A reminder that Kellogg friendships can begin anywhere, even halfway around the world.

Building something new rarely starts from scratch.

In a new Business Insider story, Allison Sheehan ’27 Two-Year Program, shares how her time at Goldman Sachs gave her tools she now uses to scale her baking startup, Alleycat. From managing costs to making sharper decisions under pressure, she reflects on how skills like capital allocation, responsiveness and precision have translated into building a business from the ground up.

Allison's journey is a reminder that entrepreneurship is often shaped by the experiences you carry with you, and that reinvention often builds on what you already know.

Ellie Bentley ’27 Two-Year Program knew from conversations with students, professors and alumni that Kellogg prioritizes community and collaboration.

But she didn’t have to take their word for it. She got to experience it for herself during her Day at Kellogg (DAK) visit, where students welcomed her and candidly answered questions at a small group dinner.

“Their genuine care and desire to help us make the best decisions for ourselves demonstrated the supportive nature of the Kellogg community,” she says.

Ellie was also impressed by Kellogg’s pathway offerings, especially the Private Equity and Venture Capital Pathway and the Sustainability: Climate, Environment, and Energy Pathway. “Kellogg’s breadth of innovative sustainability offerings and unparalleled experiential learning opportunities makes it the ideal MBA program.”

The tight-knit community in Evanston, plus the proximity to the big-city energy of Chicago, helped her confirm her decision with confidence. Meet Ellie: https://kell.gg/66qc

“India hits different.”

For Jake Camp ’26 Executive MBA Program, Kellogg’s TechVenture India course began as an immersive look at India’s technology evolution, startup ecosystem and rapid pace of innovation. It also led him somewhere unexpected: a rural blueberry farm in Karnataka.

Taught by Professor Mohan Sawhney, TechVenture India gives EMBA students a firsthand look at how business, technology and entrepreneurship are reshaping one of the world’s most dynamic markets.

For Jake, the experience came to life in the contrasts: ancient temples beside modern tech campuses, ambitious startups building with remarkable resourcefulness and a quiet blueberry farm where a founder’s humility and life’s work moved him deeply.

Between India’s modern ambitions, ancient traditions and the genuine warmth of the people he met, Jake left inspired, connected and unexpectedly homesick for a country that isn’t even his own.

A network built on relationships 💜

Reunion 2026 is right around the corner, and thousands of alumni are gearing up to reignite the relationships that define Kellogg.

“When I joined Kellogg, I expected a great education and a boost to my career,” says Matthew Heintz ’16 MBA. “What I didn’t expect were the lifelong friendships that have meant even more. Honestly, it is hard to imagine finding that kind of community anywhere else.”

From annual in-person touchpoints like Reunion to year-round in group chats filled with memes, each alum actively contributes to a global network of leaders who support, challenge and show up for one another.

Climate action demands leaders who can turn complexity into progress.

This Earth Month, meet Matt Roling, executive director of the Abrams Climate Academy at Kellogg.

“It’s hard to protect something you’ve never had the chance to touch,” Roling says, underscoring the importance of making climate work tangible.

That philosophy comes to life through the Academy, where students work on real-world projects with businesses, nonprofits and governments. From product packaging circularity to climate financing strategies, they are gaining hands-on experience while building the skills to lead meaningful change.
