Dental Hygiene ~ Farmingdale State College Dental Hygiene Program It is a licensed healthcare profession that supports total health through the promotion of oral health and wellness.

Dental Hygiene is the study of preventive oral healthcare and the management of behaviors required to prevent oral disease and promote health. Preventive oral healthcare includes:

* Preventive oral health services delivered by dental health professionals
* Therapeutic interventions that address oral conditions through treatment services
* Removal of barriers for access to preventive o

ral health services
* Promotion of patient compliance with professional recommendations for oral healthcare
* Provision of oral health educational outreach to special populations

As a member of the healthcare team, the dental hygienist integrates the roles of clinical practitioner, educator, consumer advocate, manager, change agent, and researcher to promote and maintain oral wellness and, thereby, contribute to the quality of life. Farmingdale State University of New York offers an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene which leads to licensure and certification and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene which expands career opportunities for licensed Dental Hygienists. On Saturday, May 2, Dr. Mariano, Professor Joyce, and some of our dental hygiene students participated in a community health fair at St. Bonafice Church in Elmont, where-FUN FACT- Dr. Mariano's parents got married over 50 years ago! 😍

Members of the community were provided oral health education on brushing, flossing, nutrition, and the oral systemic link, while also receiving oral health supplies and literature. 👍🪥🦷

🌟WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE...🌟

Our very own adjunct faculty member, Harriet Birsch Goldenberg, was recently honored by Rocking the Road for a Cure for her continued efforts as the founder of the Henny Bags Initiative.

Through her compassion, vision, and dedication, Harriet created an initiative that provides comfort, support, and essential post operative care items to breast cancer patients undergoing surgery, treatment, and during recovery. What began as a deeply personal mission has grown into a meaningful program that continues to impact countless individuals and families.

In collaboration with the Chi Gamma Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society at Farmingdale State College, and with support from Henry Schein, Inc. Cares, Harriet, alongside nursing faculty and students at Farmingdale State College, has helped deliver Henny Bags to breast cancer patients throughout the community. Since 2020 in partnership with Rocking the Road for a Cure, these thoughtfully prepared bags, have brought comfort to patients during some of their most difficult moments.

Harriet’s unwavering commitment to advocacy, education, and patient care is truly inspiring. We are honored to recognize and celebrate the difference she continues to make in the lives of so many.
