The ECU COB experience not only builds leaders but also prepares students to thrive professionally even before graduation. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

Last night was standing room only for a joint meeting with the Blacksail Fund, Financial Management Association (FMA) and the Investment Club. ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ‘€

Finance is more than what students learn in the classroom. It is a career field built on applied skills, relationships and experience. These three student groups apply finance in practice, connect with ambitious peers and industry professionals, and build the skills and experience employers value. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ฐ

BTWโ€ฆ students from all majors are encouraged to get involved with these and other COB student groups. There is still time, so if you are considering finance as a major or simply want to understand where a finance degree can take you, these groups are an excellent place to start. ๐Ÿค

MEET THE FIRMS. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

Last night, COB students had the opportunity to connect with employers at Meet the Firms โ€” building relationships, learning about companies, and exploring internship and career opportunities.

And we know firsthand that those connections can lead somewhere. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Ella Slate landed her summer internship with Cherry Bekaert after meeting the firm at last yearโ€™s Meet the Firms!

From a conversation to a connection to an internship, Meet the Firms is all about putting students and employers in the same room and creating opportunities for what comes next.

Keep showing up. Keep making connections. Keep putting yourself out there.

Intern of the Week: Joshua Singer!

Meet Joshua Singer, a COB student from Raleigh, NC, who spent his summer interning with Forte Capital Group in the financial department!

Through this internship, Joshua gained hands-on experience across public and private company research, analyst reports, wealth management, financial planning software, and the day-to-day operations of a premier broker. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œThis internship helped gain hands on experience in finance through analyst reports on public and private companies, high level research, wealth management and financial planning software, and exposure to the day-to-day operations of a premier broker/dealer. This opportunity will deepen my knowledge of capital markets, IPOs, security and portfolio analysis, financial planning, private equity, fund dynamics, and high-level deals and transactions, while strengthening my communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.โ€

Weโ€™re proud to celebrate Joshua and the skills heโ€™s building through this internship experience! ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

This. Is. DECA.

Student involvement across the COB is growing โ€” and DECA is a great example of what happens when students see the opportunities waiting for them beyond the classroom. ๐Ÿ†

With events like Anchors Down and Get A Clue highlighting our organizations, more students are finding their place, getting involved, and discovering opportunities. DECA brings students together to build their networks, strengthen their professional skills, connect with industry professionals, and open doors to travel and compete. And this is just the beginning! ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐Ÿ…

Next meeting: September 14th at 5:00 p.m. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Find your people. Build your network. Create opportunities.

Carson Fortuneโ€™s connection to ECU began long before he became a student. His parents met at ECU, and now he is continuing that family tradition alongside his brother, who is also a fellow Pirate pursuing a minor in business. Growing up with season tickets to football games, Carson was surrounded by ECU pride long before he ever stepped foot on campus as a student!

Now, the Pittsboro, NC native is building a story of his own. A junior Finance major concentrating in Risk Management & Insurance and pursuing a Professional Selling Certificate, Carson is putting the COB formula for success into action. He's taking what he learns in the classroom and putting it to work as VP for Recruiting for Gamma Iota Sigma, while gaining valuable experience through internships.

Last summer, Carson interned with CRC Group in Atlanta. That experience led to an invitation to return next summer, this time for an internship in Charlotte.

For Carson, the lesson is simple: get involved.

โ€œGet involved. There is a student group for every single major in the COB. Go on as many trips as you can to network,โ€ Carson said. โ€œAnd don't forget about your professors, as they have industry connections and they want you to succeed by getting that internship or obtaining a full-time offer before you graduate.โ€

Carsonโ€™s story is a reminder that sometimes showing up, getting involved, and saying yes to opportunities can take you further than you ever expected. โ˜ ๏ธ๐ŸŒ‡๐Ÿ›ซ

Are leaders born or made? ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ™‹

The Student Leadership Board kicked off the year with a conversation featuring two of ECUโ€™s most prominent leaders: Chancellor Philip Rogers and ECU Health CEO Mike Waldrum.

Students had the opportunity to hear directly from both leaders about their journeys, the people who shaped them, how they build strong teams, and what it takes to make difficult decisions when there isnโ€™t always an obvious answer.

The conversation also explored leadership through the lens of ECUโ€™s own story, from the universityโ€™s recent R1 designation to the difficult decisions and changes that come with leading an institution through growth.

It was an honest, thought-provoking conversation that gave students a chance to ask questions, learn from experience, and think more deeply about what leadership really looks like.

Two leaders. Two different journeys. One room full of future Pirate leaders. ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

How has it already been two weeks?! ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

Today marks the end of our second week of classes, and weโ€™ve loved every minute of being back on campus! We've been busy welcoming new faces and reconnecting with returning ones, itโ€™s been so good to have our Pirates back in the COB. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ‘

The first two weeks have been packed with events, opportunities, connections, and plenty of Pirate pride - and weโ€™re just getting started!

Stay connected. Stay involved. And keep an eye out for whatโ€™s next! Hereโ€™s a look at our two-week recap ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿ‘†
