Dr. Lisa Hanson, professor emerita in the College of Nursing, won the Dorothea M. Lang Pioneer Award from The Midwife Foundation at the annual meeting of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

Hanson co-founded Marquette’s nurse midwifery program in 1993. She is also the co-founder of the Aurora Sinai Midwifery and Wellness Center clinical practice.

Dr. Norah Johnson's recent publication in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders suggests that training primary care providers to identify and diagnose autism in young children can help improve access to early intervention services.

Marquette Nursing alumna Peggy Troy started her career as a staff nurse at Children's Wisconsin in 1975. She ended her career as its first female president and CEO.

Congratulations to Peggy on earning a Betty Award from Milwaukee Magazine. Specifically, she won the Quadracci Family Award, which is given out by the children of longtime publisher Betty Quadracci to the person they feel best epitomizes the leadership qualities of the award's namesake.

Peggy's leadership in both our college and the greater Wisconsin healthcare scene has touched the lives of thousands of patients for the better.

👏 Congratulations to Jenna Beyer, a senior in the College of Nursing, on receiving the President's Nursing Scholarship from Children's Wisconsin!

🎓 This highly competitive scholarship supports Children's Wisconsin employees who are pursuing careers in nursing. Jenna works at Children's as a CNA and is studying to be a pediatric nurse.

Maureen Groden, a hospice nurse, educator, and author of “When a Loved One is Dying: Conversations About Care, Connection, and Coping,” will be the keynote speaker at the 2026 James Wake Memorial Lecture on Friday, Nov. 20.

The lecture is co-hosted by the Marquette College of Nursing and the Institute for Palliative and End-of-Life Care.

Maureen Groden will be the leynote speaker at the James Wake Memorial Lecture.

Dr. Aimee Woda, associate professor in the College of Nursing, finished a successful residency with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

During her time with NCSBN, Woda learned about the regulation of nursing education, governance, research, policy and NCLEX development, among many other subjects. She also developed evidence-informed recommendations for support of part-time and adjunct clinical instructors.

For nearly a decade, Marquette’s Project BEYOND-2 and All-In Milwaukee have partnered to support students on their journey to becoming nurses. Students receive one-on-one mentoring, advising and resources to help them thrive in college. All-In Milwaukee also provides financial support to students in need.
