Worldbuilding Festival at CSUN: MC students are cordially invited to CSUN's first College of Humanities Worldbuilding Festival, taking place Saturday, November 7, from 1–6 PM at the University Student Union's East Conference Center. The festival is free and open to all, and we're especially excited to welcome students from our neighboring community colleges!

Rather than a traditional academic conference, the festival invites students to participate in worldbuilding activities such as collaborative games, Dungeons & Dragons, creative-writing challenges, zine-making, demonstrations on the politics of archives, discussions of carcerality and freedom, and interactive activities about philosophy and community, and more. We're also partnering with the University Library and the Global HSI Equity Innovation Hub to showcase the many ways the humanities shape and enrich our everyday lives, communities, and professions.
Worldbuilding Festival Details:
Saturday, November 7, 1–6 PM: Main festival at the CSUN USU East Conference Center, featuring 50-minute workshops, interactive activities and games, exhibits, and community activities

L&T Catering Truck will be serving Frybread
Navajo frybread originated 144 years ago, when the United States forced Indians living in Arizona to make the 300-mile journey known as the "Long Walk" and relocate to New Mexico, onto land that couldn't easily support their traditional staples of vegetables and beans. To prevent the indigenous populations from starving, the government gave them canned goods as well as white flour, processed sugar and lard-the makings of frybread. Indian rocker Keith Secola celebrates the food in his popular song “Frybread.” In Sherman Alexie’s award-winning film Smoke Signals, one character wears a “Frybread Power” T-shirt. Bothmen call frybread today’s most relevant Native American symbol.
