, October 29, 1966, Betty Friedan was elected as the first president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), helping establish what would become the largest grassroots feminist organization in the United States.

Friedan was best known for her 1963 book, “The Feminine Mystique," which challenged prevailing assumptions about women’s roles in American society and helped spark the second-wave feminist movement.

NOW was founded to advocate for women’s equality and to encourage the enforcement of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibited employment discrimination on the basis of s*x. Over the decades, the organization has promoted feminist ideals, led societal change, and protected the equal rights of women and girls.

Tate McRae is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and dancer whose captivating performances have made her one of the most influential artists of today’s pop landscape.

McRae began dancing at the age of six and garnered national attention in 2016 when she competed on “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.”

She later launched her musical career with her hits “you broke me first,” and “greedy,” earning a global audience. In 2025, she reached a career milestone when “What I Want” became her first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single.

McRae’s musicality and lyricism, paired with her unique performances, have led to accolades including the Juno Award for Artist of the Year and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording.

, October 23, 1915, approximately 25,000 women and supporters marched along New York City’s Fifth Avenue in one of the largest suffrage demonstrations of its time.

Organized ahead of a statewide referendum on women’s voting rights, the five-mile parade brought together advocates who called for political representation and equal participation in democracy.

Although New York’s suffrage referendum failed just weeks later, the movement persevered. In 1917, women in New York won the right to vote in state elections, helping build momentum toward the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

More than a century later, this historic march is a powerful reminder that progress is often driven by collective action.

This inspiring event brought together scientists, activists, scholars, policymakers, and artists for five thought-provoking panels exploring the intersections between gender, migration, environmental justice, and scientific innovation.

Students were integral to the program’s success, introducing speakers and sharing original creative writing pieces on climate change.
