4 Permits You Need Before Building 🏗️⤵️

📋DOB BIS & DOB NOW Work Permits
DOB work permits authorize contractors to perform approved construction work under an active DOB filing. Whether you file your permit through BIS or DOB NOW, Build's team can help review permit status, prepare renewal filings, and coordinate the process to keep your project compliant and moving forward.

⌚️DOB AHV Permits
After Hours Variance (AHV) permits allow approved construction work to take place outside normal construction hours, including certain evening and weekend work. Because AHVs have their own expiration dates and requirements, we can help determine whether your AHV needs to be renewed and assist with the filing process.

🏗️DOB Cranes & Derricks Permits
Cranes and Derricks permits are required for regulated crane and derrick operations in NYC and involve specific filing, documentation, and safety requirements. Boyd can assist contractors with obtaining and maintaining the necessary permits so equipment operations can proceed in compliance with NYC requirements.

🚦NYC DOT Work Permits
NYC DOT permits are required for construction activities that impact streets, sidewalks, and public rights-of-way, including street openings, sidewalk work, and certain construction equipment operations. We can help identify the appropriate DOT permit, prepare the required filing, and assist with renewals to help prevent unnecessary project delays.

BPP Filings Are Now in DOB NOW: Build! 🏗️

As of August 17, 2026, all new Builders Pavement Plan (BPP) applications must be submitted through DOB NOW: Build. BPP filings are no longer submitted through BIS.

A BPP addresses improvements to the sidewalk, curb, and paved roadway along the public right-of-way adjoining the property. For most new buildings and major alterations, a BPP is required to help ensure the frontage meets NYC DOB and DOT standards.
