Have you ever wanted to try out bike camping, but you aren't sure how to get started or pack a bike?

WOBO is excited to hold two more Ride Like a Girl workshops next week, open to all women, trans, femme and non-binary folks who want to go bike camping! Join us to learn how to plan a bike packing trip and how to adjust your current gear to be comfortable for a longer ride. Participants can swap gear or learn about rentals from Sports Basement. Every year in the Bay Area, 4,000 bikes are abandoned, trashed, and forgotten. But in East Oakland, the Bike Rescue takes unused and salvaged bikes, fixes them, and gets them to people and groups in need of transportation! In 2026 to date, they have saved 509 bikes from landfill, donated 208 bikes to the community, and sold 125 bikes to fund operations.

Check out bayareabicyclerescue.com to find their open hours, and visit them at 1411 23rd Ave in Oakland. Or, check the website and make a donation to keep the Bike Rescue rolling.

Supported by Walk Oakland Bike Oakland and the Oakland Department of Transportation.

Did you know that there is a ban on trucks over four and a half tons on Interstate 580, which runs through Oakland? Caltrans is conducting the I-580 Truck Access Study to understand how removing the truck ban on I-580 could affect safety, travel patterns, traffic conditions, air quality, and noise. They need your input on this study, and are surveying community members at upcoming listening sessions.

This study will create an opportunity to better understand how and why trucks travel through the study area, determine if the ban should be repealed, and identify strategies that could help alleviate disproportionate health impacts from truck traffic experienced by communities within the study area.

Please join Caltrans on Saturday, May 16th or Saturday, May 23rd from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. for in-person listening sessions of the I-580 Truck Access Study. During these sessions, the project team will provide a status update, discuss the methodology behind the technical analyses, and hold a Q&A alongside the Bay Area Air District. The same information will be presented at both sessions. RSVP is required, and will close the day prior to the listening session.
