Angelia Ramsay McKay, the oldest graduate at the May Valencia College commencement ceremonies, is living proof that it's never too late to achieve your goals. Angelia earned her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) at 64 — a goal a few decades in the making.
Angelia earned an Associate of Science in Nursing from Valencia College in 1995 and planned to transfer to University of Central Florida to earn her BSN. But when she started experiencing complications in her pregnancy and her daughter Amber was born prematurely, Angelia stopped taking classes to focus her attention on her daughter.
In recent years, Angelia's nurse manager at the Orlando VA kept pestering her to return to earn her BSN. So when Angelia’s daughter earned her nursing degree and began working at a local hospital, Angelia knew it was time to return to school — because she wanted to be an inspiration to her daughter.
At the May commencement ceremonies, she told us she was looking forward to crossing the stage to accept her diploma. "I won't be walking; I'll be running!" she said with a laugh. Congratulations to Angelia!
