A breakthrough in ovarian cancer research is coming out of Temple's Lewis Katz School of Medicine. 🔬

Published in the scientific journal Nature, the new study identifies a previously unrecognized metabolic pathway that helps aggressive ovarian cancer cells survive treatment, and shows that disrupting it could make cancer cells significantly more vulnerable.

Ambler’s “Little Stinker” has bloomed again, and yes, it smells exactly like it sounds.

The co**se flower opened up for the first time since 2021, drawing hundreds of visitors to the Tyler School of Art and Architecture Greenhouse Education and Research Complex at Ambler campus for a rare show.

A groundbreaking discovery made by researchers could open the door to new therapeutic strategies for ovarian cancer.

The study, published online May 27 in the scientific journal Nature, reveals how ovarian cancer cells use a nutrient-related process involving carnitine production to maintain the DNA repair machinery they need to continue growing. Disrupting this process weakens cancer cells’ ability to repair DNA damage and increases their sensitivity to treatment.

“The ultimate goal is to translate these mechanistic discoveries into strategies that can genuinely help patients,” said Nathaniel Snyder, PhD, MPH, assistant professor in the Aging + Cardiovascular Discovery Center in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences and one of the study’s senior investigators. “By exposing the metabolic dependencies cancer cells rely on, we move closer to developing treatments that are both more precise and more effective.”

Temple and OPEIU Local 153 (resident assistants and peer mentors) have reached a new four-year contract agreement. 🦉🤝

This first collective bargaining agreement includes increased monthly stipends and expanded leave, and will take effect at the start of the 2026–27 academic year through 2029–30.

This marks the first collective bargaining agreement for OPEIU, Local 153, which was recognized as a union at Temple last year. The new agreement goes into effect at the start of the 2026–2027 academic year and continues through the end of the 2029–2030 academic year.

Since graduating less than a decade ago, he's learned six languages, opened two coffee farms in Vietnam, launched a coffee company, built an auditing practice, competed in Muay Thai and started training to become a pilot.

Researchers from Temple Health and Temple University are collaborating on emerging “digital twin” technology that could one day help doctors better anticipate how ALS changes over time for each person.

ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and a gradual loss of movement. There is currently no cure for ALS, affecting an estimated 35,000 people in the U.S. today.

Models are now in the early stages of development with the goal of empowering patients to make critical life decisions, prioritize meaningful moments, and plan their futures with greater clarity.

This effort demonstrates Temple’s leadership in ALS care and innovation, uniting clinical expertise, scientific discovery, and a deep commitment to improving life for those affected by the disease.
