On Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Last week at Drexel’s Memorial Day Primer, “Philadelphia’s Unforgettable Edison 64,” we honored the 64 Edison High School students who lost their lives during the Vietnam War through remarks from veterans and community leaders, excerpts from Richard Sand’s book “Edison 64,” and documentary film content from American Veterans Media. The event also recognized the legacy of the Edison 64 Veterans Community and remembered Drexel alumnus and Army Veteran Peter A. Altavilla Jr. ‘83.

In the same year Anthony Drexel prepared to open the University, his firm financed a bold new vision for Reading Railroad to build a state-of-the-art complex on Market Street, including the iconic Reading Terminal and Reading Terminal Market.

Opened in 1893, the railroad is gone—but the landmark lives on as part of the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the beloved market.

A soul album recorded in Philly in 1972 is finally getting released thanks to Drexel Dragons.

Through the student-run label Mad Dragon Records, our students helped research, restore and bring “Clean Up Your Mind” to life more than 50 years later.

Music industry major Bella Kaminsky said: “[For Billy Jackson] it was all about putting his best self forward and putting all of himself in the music. It was about music sounding like music. Nowadays, everything is overproduced and so digitized. But Billy Jackson was just all about capturing that moment in time. That was so special to him.”
