The University of San Diego has been named one of America’s Top Colleges for 2027 by Forbes, ranking #5 among Catholic universities and #16 among universities in the West.

Forbes’ annual list recognizes the 500 colleges that deliver the strongest academic and career outcomes for their students. Rankings are based on 14 data points, including graduation and retention rates, alumni salaries, and prestigious fellowships and awards.

This recognition reflects the dedication of our students, faculty, staff and alumni, and USD’s commitment to preparing graduates who foster peace, work for justice and lead with love.

USD launched its online master’s degrees in India in the summer of 2024, offering courses in applied artificial intelligence, applied data science, cyber security operations and leadership, and cyber security engineering.

Since that launch, USD Online has supported more than 300 students in India through their graduate studies.

USD’s campus is home to numerous labs, classrooms and spaces for hands-on learning related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Currently, these spaces are located in different buildings, making interdisciplinary work more challenging.

Through a record-breaking gift from Darlene Marcos Shiley, philanthropist and Chair Emerita of USD’s Board of Trustees, the new Donald and Darlene Shiley STEM Institute will change that. The new building will unite students and faculty members from across the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE), with opportunities for cross-disciplinary projects and curricular expansion.

Every day, the phones start ringing early and often at USD School of Law's Legal Clinics.

From all over San Diego and beyond, community members are calling about evictions, immigration hearings, veterans’ benefits, wrongful convictions and workplace disputes. In the last year alone, USD School of Law’s Legal Clinics fielded more than 8,000 calls.

With 13 total clinics, USD is home to one of the leading clinical education programs in the country. The National Jurist’s preLaw magazine gave USD Law an A+ for practical training in 2026, placing it in the top 10 nationally. And in 2025, more than 145 student interns logged over 19,200 hours of free legal services, work estimated to be worth more than $3.3 million to San Diego County residents who, in most cases, had nowhere else to turn.
