🎉USD School of Law’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Team earned third place at the 2026 National Sports Law Negotiation Competition, marking its best finish at the event!

The competition featured 40 teams from 24 law schools nationwide. Carson Marsh (3L) and Rose Morris (2L) advanced to the final four, while Camryn Hooey (2L) and Hailey Vickery (2L), along with Seth Holbrook (2L) and Mia Weisman (2L), finished among the top 20.

The team was guided by attorney coach and USD Law alumna Amanda Sharp ’23 (JD) and Adjunct Law Professor Kathryn Hoyt ’14 (JD), with additional support from student coaches Ally Sinclair (3L) and Ula McPherson (3L).

This week, we recognize Lauren Roseman ’17 (JD), one of this year’s Rising Star Recent Alumni Award honorees, for her outstanding professional achievements and dedication to the legal community.

Lauren is a partner at Fisher & Phillips LLP’s Irvine office, where she provides employers with innovative and practical employment law advice and defends clients in complex employment litigation. Her career highlights include being named to the National Association of Women Lawyers’ Rising List in 2025 and included among the Orange County Business Journal’s Leaders of Influence: Women in Law (2024–2025). Lauren remains deeply involved with USD School of Law as Recent Alumni Chair of the Orange County Law Alumni Chapter Board, where she strengthens connections among graduates, leads networking events, and champions the law school’s presence throughout the region.

USD School of Law is excited to welcome USC Gould School of Law Vice Dean for Academic Research and Intellectual Life and Professor of Law Ariel Jurow Kleiman for our Tax Law Speaker Series on Monday, Nov. 2. She will be discussing her paper, "When Tax Law Comes Home."

Jurow Kleiman is a nationally recognized expert on tax law and policy. Her research explores how tax and fiscal policies affect low-income and vulnerable households at the local, state, and federal levels. Her publications have appeared in top legal journals including the Georgetown Law Journal, Harvard Law Review, Iowa Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, University of Minnesota Law Review, Tax Law Review, and Yale Law Journal, among others.

USD School of Law is pleased to announce that Jason L. Riley, Wall Street Journal Opinion Columnist, will deliver the 2026 USD School of Law Joan E. Bowes - James Madison Distinguished Speaker Series on Tuesday, November 17. Riley's talk will be based on his latest book, The Affirmative Action Myth, which analyzes the track record of racial preference policies in higher ed and the work force.

Established by long-time La Jolla resident and civic activist Joan E. Bowes, the speaker series was created to promote the open exchange of ideas and to inspire law students and other members of the San Diego community. Bearing the name of James Madison—fourth president of the United States and "Father of the Constitution"—this annual series brings distinguished speakers from the fields of law, diplomacy, government and politics to the University of San Diego.

Taking an unflinching look at America’s addiction treatment industry, SHUFFLE follows three individuals navigating a system where getting out safely can be as difficult as getting in. The film explores the human impact of a system shaped by insurance, profit and policy, while highlighting stories of resilience and survival.

🌟Today, we are shining a spotlight on Distinguished Alumni Award honoree Robert H. Gleason '98 (JD), who will be recognized at the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony and Luncheon.

Robert exemplifies exceptional leadership and business acumen, serving as Evans Hotels' first non-family President and CEO and directing strategy for premier properties including The Lodge at Torrey Pines, Bahia Resort Hotel, and Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa. While helping shape San Diego's hospitality and tourism industries, he has chaired the Los Angeles Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, and the San Diego LGBT Community Center. Robert remains deeply committed to USD School of Law, where he co-founded and supervises the pro bono Name and Gender-Marker Change Clinic.
