Hi, my name is Emily Groth, and I recently graduated from FIU with double majors in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies. I first learned about the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (CWGS) through Professor Veronica Diaz in her Sociology of Gender course. Early in the semester, she mentioned that FIU offers certificates that students may already be close to completing through courses they have previously taken. That immediately sparked my curiosity.

Afterward, I connected with the Asst. Director of Administrative Services in CWGS and we met in November. At the time, I believed I would graduate with only my B.A. in Psychology. Thanks to the guidance and resources available through the Center, I am now graduating with two majors and two certificates. 🥳

This experience has made me feel even more fulfilled in the work I’ve put into my undergraduate studies and has opened doors to opportunities that align with my passions and career goals. 😎

My advice to other students is to take advantage of the resources FIU provides and ask questions about programs, certificates, and opportunities that may complement your interests. Women’s and Gender Studies is not limited to one field — it can connect to and strengthen virtually any area of study.

North Miami Florida Blue Center, in partnership with the FIU Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, is excited to invite you to attend our free maternal health fair focused on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum wellness. This event is designed to support expectant and new mothers by connecting them with educational resources, wellness activities, and community support.

Join us on Saturday, May 23rd from 11am-2pm.

Prenatal yoga: 11:00am-12:00am
Lunch : 12:00pm-12:30pm
