We are honored to have been invited by our partners at Southern Birth Justice Network (SBJN) to celebrate their Bless This Land event and this incredible milestone in their journey. 💛✨

SBJN is building the first nonprofit birth and wellness center in the area — rooted in community and built for care. SBJN has remained committed to creating spaces where families can feel supported, respected, and empowered throughout their birth and wellness journeys.

We’ve had the privilege of working alongside SBJN for years, and we are incredibly proud to witness and support this next chapter. This center represents more than a physical space — it is an investment in community, in families, and in a future where everyone has access to safe, reliable, and compassionate care.🫂

Celebrating the Breastfeeding Awareness Family Day! 💛

This year, marked the 15th annual event bringing together a approximately 1800 community members to connect, learn, and celebrate the importance of breast-feeding and family wellness.

A special highlight this year was the first-ever participation of the Black Mother Care Plan representing the Center for Woman and Gender Studies.

It was great to see and table alongside our partners Southern Birth Justice Network Metro Mommy Agency, Doula, MIA March of Dimes Florida also a huge thank you to Miami-Dade WIC and BreastfeedMiami for organizing such a successful event!

We’re grateful for the connections, conversations and community. We can’t wait to keep the momentum going!

We’re so excited to welcome Tama to the team as the Health Educator for our Black Mothers Care Plan! 🥳

In her role, Tama will help connect mothers and families with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to navigate their health and well-being.
We’re thrilled to have her bringing her passion, expertise, and heart to the Black Mothers Care Plan team. 🐾

In her free time, Tama enjoys doing yoga, going to the beach, and visiting museums. 😊

Ten years ago, CWGS AD of Administrative Services, Reyni, earned her MBA after 18 long months of sleep deprivation, a severely neglected social life, and one very determined goal: to cross the finish line and prove to herself (and her doubters!) that she could do it.

And she did! 🎓

Looking back a decade later, she's still incredibly proud of that accomplishment and grateful for everything the experience taught her—not just about business and leadership, but about perseverance, discipline, and believing in yourself when the finish line felt very far away.

If you're struggling with finishing your degree and the finish line feels lightyears away, remember that you, too, can do it. Take a deep breath, enjoy the next week off, and come back the first week of school knowing that you have a village rooting hard for you! This is your sign to keep going because you can... and you will. ☺️

We'll Be There!

We are excited to share that the FIU Black Mothers Care Plan (BMCP) will be an exhibitor at this year's 15th Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Family Day, hosted by Miamid-Dade WIC and BreastfeedMIAMI.

This is a FREE community celebration bringing together families, health professionals, and community organizations to celebrate, support, and empower breastfeeding families across Miami-Dade County.

Come find us at our booth. We would love to connect, share information about our program, and meet the families and community members we serve!

One year ago, we opened the doors to something we’re incredibly proud of. 😎

A year ago, our Undergraduate Certificate in Gender-Based Violence and Prevention became available to FIU students. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming students from across disciplines into a growing community of scholars committed to understanding one of the most pressing issues of our time.

Through this certificate, students explore the roots, impacts, and prevention of gender-based violence while developing the knowledge and tools to envision and contribute to meaningful solutions.

As we celebrate this first year, we’re excited to welcome the next group of students into this community. Could you be one of them? 🤔
