Wilcox Scholars are witnessing public service in action. 🤘

This fall, scholars met with Carson Sadro, a professor, practitioner in residence, and director of trial advocacy at Stetson University College of Law. Sadro shared insights on practicing law, what to expect in law school, and tips for preparing and applying.

Wilcox Scholars also joined Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia for his “Claim Your Cash” announcement in the Honors Atrium. Students heard from Polk State College leaders and USF President Moez Limayem about how their institutions are investing in students through scholarships and need-based programs.

Over Homecoming weekend, scholars attended a rally featuring U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon. The event brought thousands together around economic policy, money in politics, and the future of public service, giving scholars a firsthand look at political engagement beyond the classroom.

Words shape how we see the world. 🖊️

Syrian-American rapper, poet, and storyteller Omar Offendum joined Professor Shahd Alasaly’s Power of Words: How Language Shapes Our Realities class for a special session that also brought together students from several other Honors classes.

Throughout his career, Offendum has blended Arabic poetry and rap to share his lived experiences and explore societal norms in America. During the event, he performed selections from his poetry and music and discussed how words can challenge stereotypes and shift perspectives. He also shared how creative expression can give people a way to tell stories and communicate ideas that might not otherwise have the same impact.

Congratulations to Cami Valdes, one of two new recipients of the fall 2026 Blanchard Sustainability Leadership Prize!

While helping plan the annual USF Climate Teach-In 5K last year, Cami noticed an often-overlooked problem: organized races can generate a lot of waste, from disposable water cups to individually packaged snacks. She saw an opportunity to do things differently.

Through the Blanchard Sustainability Leadership Prize, Cami will research ways to make the USF Climate Teach-In 5K a zero-waste event. She hopes to put the Climate Teach-In’s mission of accessible sustainability into practice while creating a model that other Tampa Bay races can follow.

Hey everyone! I’m Calvin Pham, a USF Honors student studying global business and finance, and today I’ll be taking over the Honors Instagram from New Orleans. I’m attending the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Annual Conference, where leaders from around the world come together to discuss economic growth, community development, and creating opportunities in their regions.

As a Community Development Intern with the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council through the support of Judy Genshaft’s Genspiration Foundation, I’m excited to share this experience and what I learn throughout the day!

Congratulations to Joshua Durden, one of two new recipients of the fall 2026 Blanchard Sustainability Leadership Prize!

Like many USF students, Joshua enjoys spending time at Simmons Park on campus. But he also saw an opportunity to make the space more welcoming to wildlife, educational for visitors, and supportive of native Florida plants.

With the award, Joshua and fellow sustainability-focused student organizations plan to install educational signage to help protect the park’s ducks, turtles, and other wildlife. They also hope to introduce more native plants, including varieties that will form a small food forest.

His goal? Make USF a better place than when we found it.

Sunsets and stretches 🌇

The Judy Genshaft Honors College Student Council Events and Volunteer Committees teamed up to host a Yoga and De-Stress event. Students were guided through a relaxing yoga session and encouraged to step away from midterm stress and simply breathe.

With beautiful weather and a chance to slow down, the event gave students an opportunity to pause, recharge and prioritize their well-being.
