Chloe Jones knew from an early age that she wanted to explore chemistry. At USF, that interest grew into a passion for research and a goal of pursuing a career in science.

Looking for avenues to gain research experience, Chloe turned to USF’s Office of National Scholars (ONS) for guidance. Through ONS, she discovered Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) and learned how to be competitive for these programs, opening the door to opportunities in chemistry research.

Those opportunities took Chloe beyond USF, from studying enzymes and mass spectrometry at the University of Texas at Dallas to exploring quantum mechanics at Ohio State University. Along the way, she met lifelong mentors and strengthened her passion for her field.

Now, Chloe is continuing her research at USF and applying for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.

612 of our newest Honors students were celebrated at the 2026 Tampa Honors Convocation! 🎉

With a 35% increase in applications compared to the previous year, this cohort represents the most selective class invited to join the college yet. They're motivated students who have the potential to grow and uplift the university, and Honors is here to help them reach that potential.

At the ceremony, students were empowered by the words of university leaders, Honors alum and international trade attorney Amber Pirson, and Tampa Student Council President Ava Tucker. We can’t wait to see what the Class of 2030 will do! 🤘

A record-breaking class of National Merit Scholars deserves a sweet welcome. 🍦🤘

This fall, USF welcomed a record 83 National Merit Finalists — a 38% increase over last year! National Merit Finalists are among the highest-achieving high school students in the country, recognized for their exceptional academic performance and potential.

To celebrate, the Judy Genshaft Honors College welcomed new and returning National Merit Scholars to our annual NMS Ice Cream Social, giving students a chance to kick off the semester, mingle with fellow scholars, and connect with the Honors community.

Starting college with a passion for sports, DJ Bernadotte didn’t expect that passion to lead him to a career in downtown development.

Through living in the Honors LLC, interning with USF Athletics, serving as an intramural sports referee at USF Recreation & Wellness, and other experiences across the sports industry, DJ discovered an interest in the communities and downtown districts surrounding sports. Internships with the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority and St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership helped him build the experience that led to his current role as a downtown development coordinator with the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, where he works to support Tampa Bay’s continued growth.
