52 robot crashes later, Russell is still smiling. 🤖
Cargill employees Joey, Chris, Josh and Russel just wrapped up a hands-on robotics class at The WorkSITE. We checked in with them before and after to see what changed 🎤
Chris programs and maintains robots at Cargill. He started with no formal training, and the way he says it, it was “hey, this is yours, figure it out.”
Q: Chris, did the class fill in any gaps?
A: “A lot of gaps. I had some good base knowledge, but there was a lot of terminology, a lot of the real technical parts that I was missing. It’s going to make my job ten times easier instead of trying to guess and do it the wrong way.”
Q: Russell, how are you feeling now that you’ve finished?
A: “I feel a lot better. More understanding, less crashing of the robots. I crashed it 52 times in this class, but the class was wonderful. I learned a lot.”
Q: Josh, what was your favorite part?
A: “The hands-on stuff. I’m not a classroom learner, but once we got out here, everything started making a lot more sense.”
Joey had never touched these robots before class.
Q: Joey, what’s different now?
A: “I learned a lot of stuff that I didn’t know. I’m pretty sure if I had to do something to them at work, I might know what I’m doing now. Before, I wouldn’t have known at all.”
Q: Russel, what’s one thing you’ll take back to work?
A: “Being able to help with programming if Chris ever needs it. And because we have a second class coming through, if they have questions, I feel like I’ll be able to help them too.”
They started at different levels, but now they’re taking more knowledge back to Cargil, helping build up the next group coming through.
That’s The Texas Standard in action at The WorkSITE. Industry and education that work, building skills that get shared and put to work right here in our community. ⭐
