When the estate first was created in 1780s by The Colby family it consisted of over 2000 acres of farmland and tenant farms .

What makes Ffynone Mansion special is the countryside around it .

200 mlynedd yn ôl i heddiw, ar 30 Hydref 1826, gwerthwyd Ystâd Energlyn. Dyma glawr y catalog gwerthiant.

Roedd yr Ystâd yn cynnwys tir trwy blwyfi Eglwysilan, Rhydri, yr Eglwys Newydd a Llanisien, ac roedd yn cynnwys nifer o adeiladau o fewn tref Caerffili, ynghyd a’r mwynau tanddaearol. Cafodd yr arwerthiant ei gynnal yn y Cardiff Arms Inn yng Nghaerdydd.

200 years ago today, on 30 October 1826, the Energlyn Estate was sold. The cover of the sale catalogue can be seen here.

The Estate included lands across the parishes of Eglwysilan, Rudry, Whitchurch and Llanishen, and included several buildings in the town of Caerphilly, along with the mineral deposits under the land. The sale took place at the Cardiff Arms Inn in Cardiff.

Cartographic survey of the Garthewin estates, principally in Denbighshire, the property of Robert Wynn esq, surveyed by Thomas Slater and Charles Bage, 1781, including this wonderful view of the mansion and its demesne.

Today we were so pleased to welcome Rose Horton-Smith to ISWE’s community of doctoral researchers.

Rose completed her MA in History with us at Bangor last summer and has now joined us to undertake a fascinating study based on the diaries of Catherine Llewellyn (d.1848) of Court Colman Manor, held by Glamorgan Archives / Archifau Morgannwg.

Rose will be supervised by Dr Lowri Ann Rees and Dr Shaun Evans at Bangor University History Prifysgol Bangor Hanes
