Dr Stephen Singleton new Chair of North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) visited our Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle to meet with Professor Mary Morrell and our PCSM students. He spent time taking a tour of the campus and seeing the facilities our team use in their teaching and learning.

Pears Cumbria School of Medicine, and the PCSM Research Hub attended the ASCENT Cumbria Research Innovation Symposium last week.

Our students met health system leaders and researchers to discuss how research and innovation is shaping healthcare in Cumbria and beyond.

The PCSM Research Hub team shared information about research funding schemes, capacity-building activity, and upcoming opportunity opportunities in research at the PCSM Research Hub.

It was a pleasure to catch up with the academic team and the students at Cumbria’s very own Medical School.

I could not be prouder that Carlisle is home to the The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. The pioneering approach of Pears has the potential to transform healthcare in our county, by growing the pipeline of home grown doctors we need.

Good luck to the students as they enter the final few weeks of their first year. I cannot wait to see what year two and the next cohort bring 👩‍⚕️ 🏥

As part of their curriculum, our students spent time at Imperial College London, Charing Cross Hospital and Gordon's Museum of Pathology as part of their London Field Week. They took part in sessions on anatomy, brain pathology, historical medical imagery and social events.

We welcomed Julie Minns MP, Labour MP for Carlisle, to our campus this week. She met with our students and heard about their progress. We also discussed healthcare in Cumbria and impact of PCSM in the region.✨

A piece of Cumbrian health history North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust kindly gave the team at PCSM some historic medical items from their pharmacy department at the Cumberland Infirmary.

We have displayed them outside our Clinical Skills space so that students and staff can learn more about the history of medicine. 🩺

Come with our PCSM Graduate Entry Medicine students to the Parliamentary Reception at Westminster last month.

They met with leaders from Imperial College London, University of Cumbria, the Pears Foundation and MPs to share how PCSM’s unique partnership is creating a new model for regional medical education focused on improving patient outcomes, community needs and research.

They did a fantastic job, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they represented PCSM at the event. ⭐️🩺
