It’s Student of the Week time! 🎉

Meet Dr Bhavana Makinoda, the MSc Global Healthcare Management (Leadership) student who came to London from India as a physician and discovered a much bigger vision for where her healthcare career could take her.

Reflecting on her experience at UCL Global Business School for Health, she shared:

💬 "Coming from a clinical background where training often stays within the closed loop of undergraduate study, postgraduate specialisation, and hospital practice this course opened my eyes to the bigger picture: that behind every patient outcome, there are entire systems and thousands of people working together to get things right.

The biggest skill I’ve gained is the ability to think broadly to see healthcare not just through a clinical lens, but through a systems lens, which I believe will shape how I approach leadership in this field."

What if you had just five days to turn a healthcare challenge into a business idea? 💡

This summer, 60 Year 12 students joined us at UCL Global Business School for Health for our Redefining Health Summer School, getting a taste of what happens when business, technology and healthcare collide.

Across the week, students:

→ Developed their own digital health concepts
→ Researched users, competitors and real-world healthcare challenges
→ Visited UCL’s entrepreneurship hub, BaseKX
→ Explored careers during a visit to the Financial Times
→ Turned their ideas into five-minute pitches for our very own Dragons’ Den

In just five days, they went from identifying a problem to developing and pitching a potential solution – experiencing first-hand how business skills can be used to help shape the future of health.

Think you could take on the challenge?

Our Business and Health BSc/MSci brings together business, healthcare and innovation to prepare the next generation to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing health systems around the world.

It’s Student of the Week time! 🎉

Meet Waqaar Shah, an Executive MBA Health student and Clinical Director in the NHS, who is developing new ways of thinking about leadership and the challenges facing healthcare systems.

For Waqaar, the UCL Executive MBA Health is an opportunity to learn not only from experts, but from healthcare professionals working across different countries and contexts.

He is already taking his learning back into the workplace, applying new approaches to leadership and sharing insights with colleagues. Looking ahead, Waqaar sees the programme as an important part of the impact he wants to make across healthcare.

Speaking about what he has gained from the programme so far, he shared:

💬 “I love the classes. They are very interactive and through the interaction we collectively learn a lot and we support each other in our learning [...] I will be able to add so much value to the healthcare system that I'm working in.

I'm going to be able to bring back these innovative ways of thinking, new ways of understanding problems.”
