As part of the CCF Adult Continued Professional Development the CCFRN Officers Initial Course is to signify that a Cadet Force Officer has completed the basic requirements to be promoted to a substantial rank and have achieved a Cadet Forces Commission. Upon passing the Officers Initial Course candidates achieve their Commissioning Scroll signed by His Majesty the King to formally recognise the Cadet Force Commission. This Officers Initial Course has been conducted at Britannia Royal Naval College, home to Royal Navy Officers Training alongside 25 other newly commissioned Cadet Force Officers, well done Mr Lines! As we're ten this year, we're celebrating something special about the UTC each month, to show you why we're unique.

#1 Trips and visits-here at the UTC we're proud of the educational visits we offer to our students, days or afternoons out that compliment learning and allow students to see classroom concepts in the real world. But it's about life skills too, learning teamwork, resilience, problem solving and getting to work with peers in an altogether different setting. Some notable highlights for our trips are regular Geography field trips, STEM Racing outings (passports at the ready!), GreenPower Racing, Science and Engineering Week, 6th Form Employer visits, Science Mavericks, end of year beach trips and so much more. There really is no end to what we can offer and the starting point is you!

We've reached the end of National Cadets Week and we're so happy to have shown you some of the things our cadets get up to. From leadership skills and work in the community, to the dedication of our tireless volunteers, there's so much involved in the life of the Cadet. It's a real privilege to offer this to our students, and watch their confidence grow and their resilience build as they work together, complete activities and gain amazing qualifications that they can take into their futures and beyond. It's Skills for Life Day this National Cadets Week and the students have been busy with PLT's this afternoon. We also had a chance to speak to some of our cadets about the skills they have gained from CCF.

Leading Hand Cadet Frederiksen said, "I have been in cadets for three years and while that may seem a small speck in the span of my life the effects haven’t been small, because of CCF I have learnt all about the Royal Navy fleet and developed skills I never knew I had."

Leading Hand Cadet Wood added, "During my time through cadets, I have learned lots of skills, teamwork, commitment and discipline, but the one skill that has helped the most is my public speaking that I use every day without realising, I think it's a good skill for all young people to have."

Ordinary Cadet White echoed Cadet Wood's sentiments, "In cadets, I've gained the skill to be able to speak clearly in front of a group of people. This is a good skill I could use in life because I can form new friendships and make new connections without showing myself up. This skill came in use during the summer when I was at BRNC leading me to form strong friendships with my peers."

Chief Petty Officer Cadet Winchcombe said, "During my time in Scarborough UTC CCF I have learnt leadership skills which are transferable to outside curricular activities that I participate in. Cadets is important to me because it allows me to create new friends across the UK." Cadets In Schools

We've had a fantastic week at STEM week, showing what we do and joining with other organisations to show what science, technology, engineering and maths is all about. Students had a great time when they visited and were able to see just how their classroom learning can lead to real world skills and employment. Some were even brave enough to hold a snake!

Cadets is not just about wearing the uniform and learning about their parent service, it's also about giving young people skills for life. As part of these skills for life cadets teach first aid which is skill that can be taken into any part of the community. Cadets up and down the country often put these skills to use when the time calls.

For National Cadets Week and Cadets Save Lives Day, we're proud to say well done to all cadets who take part, and use these first aid skills in the community to help and support people. Cadets In Schools

It's Cadets in Community Day this National Cadet Week, and Cadets play an important part in the communities surrounding them. Here at Scarborough UTC, our Cadets attend many civic events such as Remembrance Day, Commonwealth Day, Armed Forces Day and VE Day. Each time, they enter the community, it's about them showing casing the skills they have learnt, representing the Combined Cadet Force and to remember and thank those who are serving or have served.

Well done to all current and past cadets who attend these civic events and engage with the community. Cadets In Schools
