The Lab is home to an extensive animal bone reference collection and one of the largest and most active zooarch research and teaching teams in the world.

Sheffield has a long history of zooarchaeology teaching and research, and today it is home to one of the largest and most active zooarchaeology research teams in the UK. Our members work throughout the UK and Europe as well as contributing to projects in Asia and Africa, and have research interests that span the period from the Palaeolithic to the recent past. We are involved in a wide range of zooarchaeology teaching activities through our short courses, undergraduate classes, and Sheffield's MSc programmes in Osteoarchaeology and Environmental Archaeology and Palaeoeconomy.

Alive & Kicking n.74. We are back to our team's work with this paper by Idoia Grau Sologestoa & Umberto Albarella, based on Idoia's postdoc work at Sheffield. Great memories and hopefully a useful output pointing out the importance of the 16th century as a period of livestock improvement, well before the Agricultural Revolution. It builds on the work previously done by Simon Davis, Richard Thomas, and Umberto himself.
