Have you ever thought of taking amoxicillin when you notice pus in a wound? While pus may indicate an infection, not every pus-filled wound needs amoxicillin or antibiotics at all.

Amoxicillin treats certain bacterial infections, but its effectiveness depends on the bacteria causing the infection. Some skin infections involve bacteria that amoxicillin alone cannot effectively treat. Additionally, an abscess may require professional drainage to remove the pus. Antibiotics may be necessary depending on the severity of the infection and other risk factors.

Misusing antibiotics can cause side effects, including diarrhea and allergic reactions, and contribute to antibiotic resistance, making bacterial infections harder to treat.
