Rural communities need nurses, but getting into a nursing program can be a challenge for students who live far from a college or face barriers to accessing education.

A recent article from The Daily Yonder explores how health care organizations can help address nursing shortages. Strategies include investing in local talent, creating accessible education pathways, and introducing young people to healthcare careers at an early age.

The story features Chrissy Curcio, chief nursing officer at Bassett Healthcare Network A.O. Fox Hospital, who leads instruction in Maria College’s LPN program. She highlights the important role nursing education plays in preparing local talent to meet community healthcare needs.
