Soka University is a private, four-year liberal arts college and graduate school located on 103-acres overlooking a wilderness park in Aliso Viejo, CA. The university is ranked in the top five liberal arts colleges on the West Coast by US News and World Report. Soka University offers an 8:1 student/faculty ratio and study abroad for every undergraduate student. Founded upon the Buddhist principles

of peace, human rights and the dignity and sanctity of life, SUA is open to top students of all nationalities and beliefs. About half of Soka University's students come from the US and half from more than 40 other countries. Beginning with the 2027–2028 academic year, the Soka Opportunity Plan will guarantee that every admitted undergraduate student from a family earning $200,000 or less will pay no tuition out of pocket. Families earning up to $250,000 will have half their tuition covered; families earning up to $300,000, a quarter. This applies both to new students and to continuing students who remain enrolled at Soka at that time.

📣🦁 Beginning in the 2027–28 academic year, SUA will significantly expand the Soka Opportunity Plan to make a Soka education more accessible for undergraduate students.

Every admitted undergraduate student from a family earning $200,000 or less will pay no tuition out of pocket. Families earning up to $250,000 will have half their tuition covered, and families earning up to $300,000 will have a quarter of their tuition covered.

This expanded support will apply to both new students and continuing students who remain enrolled at Soka at that time.

Made possible in part by the strength of SUA’s donor community, this expansion reflects Soka’s founding commitment to educating global citizens who contribute to a more just and compassionate world.

The SUA community is invited to celebrate Dr. Carlos Alberto Torres, recipient of the 2026 Soka Global Citizen Award, on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. in the Founder’s Meeting Room on the third floor of Founders Hall.

A distinguished professor at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and founding director of the Paulo Freire Institute, Dr. Torres has spent more than four decades advancing the fields of comparative and international education. His scholarship has explored how education can prepare people to meet the responsibilities of global citizenship and contribute to a more just and interconnected world.

The Soka Global Citizen Award recognizes individuals whose work embodies the qualities of wisdom, courage, and compassion articulated by SUA founder Daisaku Ikeda.

Congratulations to Uget Hagan '28, named 2026 Emerging Leader of the Year at the eWomenNetwork Femtor Awards! 🎉

Originally from Ashaiman, Ghana, Uget is studying Economics at Soka while pursuing her passion for entrepreneurship and social impact. Through the Uget Inspires Foundation, she has helped support educational initiatives reaching more than 1,500 students in Ghana and created new opportunities for young women through the Girls with Ambition Fellowship.

This summer, Uget also interned with Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield, supporting community-focused initiatives and gaining firsthand insight into how public resources and financial decisions can strengthen communities.

It’s official: Soka University of America will establish a second campus in Monterey, California.

Following negotiations with Middlebury College, SUA has acquired the Middlebury Institute of International Studies campus and will continue select graduate programs there, with classes expected to begin in fall 2027.

“I am confident that uniting our institutions will help shape generations of global citizens who make lasting contributions to humanity,” said President Ed Feasel.
