🎓🦁 The Life Sciences Concentration held its annual Capstone Presentation and Celebration on Friday, May 8, bringing together students and faculty to recognize graduating seniors’ research projects. The presentations reflected the breadth of inquiry in Life Sciences and highlighted clear, effective scientific communication as an essential part of scientific training and a key milestone toward graduation.

The well-attended event reflected the collaborative spirit of the Life Sciences community. Faculty and fellow students praised the graduating seniors not only for the quality of their research and presentations, but also for their intellectual curiosity and readiness to make meaningful contributions beyond the university. The celebration served as a reminder of the talented and thoughtful young scientists emerging from SUA each year.

SUA student Daiki Katsukawa ’26 recently spoke at the United Nations NPT Review Conference on behalf of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Peace Messengers, a high school student-led peace advocacy group dedicated to nuclear disarmament.

As a former Peace Messenger who now supports the group’s international outreach, Daiki worked alongside current high school students to draft a message of hope, dialogue, and courage for diplomats navigating deeply difficult global challenges.

Watch Daiki’s message and hear how young people are continuing to call for a world free of nuclear weapons. 🌍

The 2024 Learning Cluster “Education for Happiness,” led by Debbie Goss, Writing Center manager and adjunct writing instructor, inspired SUA students to explore Finland’s holistic approach to education.

The findings of their work culminated in "Education for Happiness: Lessons from Finland," published in the March/April 2026 issue of Childhood Education Innovations, a journal focused on innovative practices in education around the world.

This is what makes Learning Clusters at SUA so distinctive: students and faculty dive deeply into meaningful questions together and create work that reverberates beyond the classroom.
