Southern California News Group

Southern California News Group Southern California News Group (SCNG) operates 11 locally focused daily newspapers, community weeklies, magazines and numerous digital products.

Established in March 2016, Southern California News Group (SCNG) has virtually overnight become one of the most powerful and influential news organizations in the U.S. This dynamic union was created when the Los Angeles News Group (owners of nine local daily newspapers and websites) and its parent company Digital First Media (DFM) acquired Freedom Communications (owners of The Orange County Regist

er and The Press-Enterprise in Riverside). By combining these two highly regarded and well-established institutions, SCNG has emerged as the largest news content provider in the five-county Los Angeles metropolitan area. As a leader in circulation among top publications nationwide, SCNG now owns and operates 11 local daily newspapers and more than a dozen community weeklies. Our mission is to connect communities by providing readers with the area's best local news coverage, while providing advertisers with unprecedented access to one of the world's most diverse and dynamic audiences. No matter the distribution vehicle—newspaper, magazine, mobile, online—SCNG's in-depth reporting on local news, politics, sports and entertainment continues to attract a desirable audience for its customers. Combining print, online and social media SCNG now delivers premium content to more than 8.1 million adults every week, making it an indispensable marketing solution for advertisers across Southern California.

Quarter of a century after journalist Andre Mouchard drove from New York to Southern California following 9/11 and wrote “Through the Heart,” our team is embarking on a new version of that reporting road trip.

Departing from the Anaheim Fire Training Center’s 9/11 memorial, reporter Sierra van der Brug, photographer Jeff Gritchen and Andre are traveling to New York. On the way, they will visit memorials, deliver stories from locals and see how 9/11 touched – and in some cases continues to impact – our nation today.

Follow along for daily stories, updates and behind-the-scenes reporting as they drive to New York.

Missed our live conversation last Friday? You can still catch the full recording featuring best-selling authors C.J. Box and Tess Gerritsen.

During the conversation with editor Samantha Dunn, the two acclaimed suspense writers shared the inspiration behind their latest work and offered a peek behind their creative process:

C.J. Box (Joe Pickett, ABC’s Big Sky) discussed how his early career in journalism shaped his approach to writing crime fiction, the real-life inspiration behind outlaw Nate Romanowski, and his short story "The Falcon Miscalculation" in the Birds of Prey anthology.

Tess Gerritsen (Rizzoli & Isles) introduced her Martini Club thriller series, including The Shadow Friends. She reveals how her real-life neighbors—former CIA operatives—inspired her portrayal of espionage, why she writes first drafts longhand and her peculiar rivalry with local seagulls.
