MediaArts At Unt

MediaArts At Unt Radio, television, film and digital media platforms play a significant role in society by providing

Media Arts students are provided a liberal arts education combined with hands-on experience utilizing similar tools used by industry professionals. The department offers two undergraduate degrees:

a Bachelor of Arts with a major in radio, television and film (RTVF), and
a Bachelor of Arts with a major in converged broadcast media (CBCM);

and two graduate degrees:

a Master of Arts in

either Critical-Cultural Studies or Industry Studies, and
a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Production and Studies. The department's faculty includes top scholars along with current and former media practitioners with many years of experience. The RTVF undergraduate major provides a comprehensive background in media production, along with courses devoted to writing, industry studies, history, and critical/cultural studies. The CBCM undergraduate major provides a comprehensive background in media convergence, web-based production of news and information, as well as courses devoted to covering sports, entertainment, and political events. For the graduate degrees, Critical-Cultural Studies aims to help students wishing to develop critical thinking and writing skills with a goal of proceeding to a PhD or increasing professional skills. Industry Studies prepares students for PhD programs or advanced media industry positions. The Master of Arts is designed as a two-year program while the Master of Fine Arts is a three-year terminal degree program. Located within the thriving Dallas–Fort Worth market (currently ranked number 5 in the U.S.) the department frequently hosts professionals who serve as guest speakers and adjunct professors. The department also has an executive board made up of professionals and alumni who provide guidance on curricular development and industry trends. The location within the DFW market offers numerous internship and part-time employment opportunities while students are pursuing their degrees.

Earlier this month, we were able to honor our 3rd year MFA graduate students during their thesis documentary screenings. Chandler Gaydos & Jay Zamorano have officially graduated and completed our MFA program in documentary production & studies. We are extremely proud of Chandler and Jay and wish them the best of luck on their future endeavors!

Introducing THE SUPER 8.5! Last week, our 2nd year students in the Master of Fine Arts Program premiered their documentaries. The documentaries covered a vast range of topics and showed each students' growth from their first year. Congratulations students, we can't wait to see what you make next year!

Advanced Film Premiere! Last Friday, our advanced film students premiered their long anticipated short films. They have worked on their films for two semesters and were excited to share their work with cast, crew, friends, and family. We are extremely proud of our students and their teams! Congratulations students!! This past week, we were grateful to honor and award scholarships to our students at our annual Department of Media Arts Honors & Awards Ceremony. Thank you all for continuing to make Media Arts the place to be!

On Wednesday, we recognized the students that make our department so great including our graduate students, ambassadors, film festival crew, advanced film students, student employees in our studios, equipment room, ntTV, KNTU and scholarship recipients.

Special congratulations to our two MA Graduate students, Francesca & Charlie, who were hooded at the ceremony and recognized for their work.

Huge thank you to Dean Cobb for his opening remarks and Scrappy who attended our event and took pictures with our guests! Go Mean Green!
