East Los Angeles College (ELAC) offers both academic transfer courses, which prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities, as well as occupational programs, which prepare students for careers in two years or less. Many of the students who transfer from ELAC to a four-year university move on to nearby California State University, Los Angeles or to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The college is located in the suburban community of Monterey Park, California, 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Big news for ELAC students: applications are now open for Fall 2026 student housing through a first-of-its-kind partnership between East LA College and Cal State LA!

Eligible students can live right on the Cal State LA campus in furnished, apartment-style housing, with all-inclusive rates starting at no more than $1,150 per month. That covers your furnished apartment, utilities, internet, and a meal plan — no surprise bills. Financial aid may help offset the cost.

Living on campus also gives you a head start on your transfer journey, with no transfer required yet. Students get year-round support from on-site Resident Assistants and professional staff.

Space is limited and assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Big news for ELAC students! Our Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) program saved students an estimated $6,062,700 during the 2025–2026 academic year. That's real money staying in our students' pockets!

With 60,627 enrollments in ZTC courses across Summer 2025 through Spring 2026, ELAC continues to lead the way in making higher education more affordable and accessible.

A huge thank you to faculty champions Mandy Concoff Kronbeck and Maria Betancourt, whose dedication to promoting ZTC courses on campus has made this incredible impact possible.

We are thrilled to celebrate five incredible students from the ELAC Honors Program who represented us at the 2026 Honors Transfer Council of California (HTCC) Building Bridges Conference at UC Riverside, and absolutely crushed it!
