Welcome to UNA, Dr. Henry!

JaKobe Henry is a trumpet player, educator, and composer whose work spans both jazz and classical traditions. Henry earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance and a Master of Music in Classical Trumpet Performance from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Jacksonville State University.

His research on trailblazing trumpeter Barbara Donald has been presented at the International Women’s Brass Conference and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Henry has served as an adjudicator for the Junior Division of the National Trumpet Competition and the Jazz Division of the International Trumpet Guild Conference. His work has received national and international recognition, including the Air Force Band Diversity Fellowship and selection in the International Trumpet Guild’s New Work Competition. He has served on the brass staff for the Mandarins drum and bugle corps, and is currently on the brass staff for Music City drum and bugle corps. He is an alumnus of the Spirit of Atlanta.

Our students loved connecting with young singers, sharing music, and talking about what it’s like to be part of the choral program at the University of North Alabama. We’re always excited to build relationships with future Lions and support music education in our community. 🦁🎶

Upon arrival at the venue, all phones will be secured in Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests maintain possession of their phones at all times, and can access their phones throughout the event at designated Phone Use Area in the venue. All phones will be re-secured in Yondr pouches before returning to the event space.⁠

𝗠𝗮𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆 has accepted his appointment as 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, continuing his role as 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆. His leadership and connection with our musicians and audience have already made a lasting impact.⁠

𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘆 returns to UNA as 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 after serving as UNA’s Associate Director of Bands from 2019–2025. He’ll lead the Marching Pride along with UNA’s concert and jazz bands, bringing energy, experience, and deep ties to the program.⁠
