Still copying 6-digit text codes or typing long passwords? It’s time to upgrade!

Passkeys are the next generation of account security. Instead of relying on passwords or SMS codes, passkeys log you in using what you already use every day: your device and Face ID, Touch ID, or PIN.

Swipe through to learn how passkeys work and where to save them!

Take Action:

Set up a passkey for your Geneseo account today at aka.ms/mfasetup

Save your passkeys to Apple Passwords, Google Password Manager, or a standalone manager like 1Password.

Save the Date: Visit our table in the Student Union on October 28 & 29 for live demos and help!

Can you spot the fakes? 🐾🤖

AI image generators have gotten shockingly realistic. While scammers use synthetic photos and videos to manipulate and trick people online, learning to spot the subtle clues of AI generation is one of the best ways to protect yourself.

To test your digital detective skills, we made a game out of it! CIT Pet vs. AI Pet! 🐶🐱✨

Look closely at the photos in this post:
Which of these pets belong to actual CIT staff members and friends, and which ones were created entirely by AI?

When you hear "phishing," you probably think of a suspicious email. But fraudsters have moved beyond your inbox.

Scams can show up anywhere you communicate:
📩 Emails
📅 Calendar invitations
📱 Text messages (aka smishing)
📞 Phone calls
💬 Direct messages on social media
📲 Scannable QR codes(aka quishing)

Treat unexpected requests across all platforms with equal caution. If a message asks for personal information, login credentials, or quick payment, pause and verify the source directly.

Think scams are easy to spot because of bad spelling and irregular English? Think again!

Modern scammers use professional templates, AI tools, and official branding to make fraudulent messages look legitimate.

Look for red flags. 🕵️‍♂️

🚩 Inspect the actual sender email address

🚩 Wording that plays on your emotions

🚩 Links that don't go to the official site of the service referenced

One password to rule them all... 💍
Reusing the same password across all your accounts? A password manager makes your online life both easier AND much safer!

Why switch to a password manager?
🔑 Generates strong passwords automatically so you don't have to guess.
🧠 Remembers everything—you only need to memorize ONE primary password.
⚡ Saves time by auto-filling your username and password on apps and sites.

You might already have one built right into your phone (like Apple Passwords or Google Password Manager)! Standalone tools like Bitwarden and Proton Pass also offer great free versions.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This year, CIT is focusing on small actions that can make a meaningful difference: using unique passwords and a password manager, protecting multi-factor authentication, verifying unusual requests, choosing passkeys when available, and promptly installing software updates.
Throughout the month, we will share practical steps for protecting your accounts, money, personal information, and devices.

✅ Pause before responding.
✅ Protect your accounts.
✅ Proceed with security updates.

Don't let AI make a fool out of you.

As month comes to a close, remember: AI is a powerful tool, but awareness is your best defense. Stay sharp, continue to verify unusual requests, and use AI responsibly to keep our college community secure.

Stay safe, stay informed, and stay AI-fool-proof all year long.

AI voice cloning = the worst prank ever. 🙅‍♂️

If it sounds like a loved one asking for money, it might still be a scam. Scammers can use AI to imitate friends or coworkers to catch you off guard. This month, take the human vs AI voice challenge at https://www.staysafeonline.org/campaigns/safeword
