Congratulations to the winners of this year's UNC Greensboro Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT)! These graduate students had only three minutes to effectively sum up their research and its impact for a lay audience.
UNCG Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders student Huili Wang, mentored by UNCG Kinesiology Professor Dr. Eric Drollette, received second place for her research, "Brain Study on Childhood Apraxia of Speech."
Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education student Iyaira Williams, mentored by UNCG Public Health Education Professor Dr. Erica Payton, received the People's Choice award for her research, "Girl, R-E-S-T!: Taking (not finding) the time for R-E-S-T in Young Black Women."
We're proud of everyone who competed in this rigorous competition that showcases research!

Congratulations to the 10 finalists of the UNC Greensboro Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition! We are especially proud of those with HHS connections. To participate, graduate students must present research in only three minutes with one PowerPoint slide. Come support them Thursday at the Marcus T. Johnson Alumni House at 2 p.m. as they compete to be the winner.
Students with HHS connections include Iyaira Williams, mentored by UNCG Public Health Education professor Dr. Erica Payton; UNCG Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders student Huili Wang, mentored by UNCG Kinesiology professor Dr. Eric Drollette; UNCG Kinesiology student Iman Khan mentored by Kinesiology professor Dr. Joel Martin; UNCG Public Health Education student Alicia Powell, mentored by Public Health Education professor Dr. Erica Payton; and UNCG Kinesiology student Ali Hibbard, mentored by Kinesiology professor Dr. Louisa Raisbeck.

At UNC Greensboro, Kristin Bogner built the skills and experience that prepared her for a career at Camp Blue Skies. An introductory recreational therapy class helped her find the right path, while hands-on learning and guidance from supportive faculty showed her how recreation can help people build skills, independence, and connection.
A professor introduced Kristin to the Camp, where she began volunteering during spring break. That experience grew into a career. Today, she’s the volunteer and camper experience manager, helping prepare volunteers to support campers and creating behavior support plans for new social experiences.

These 12 individuals have made a tremendous impact on research, their communities and their career fields and represent multiple departments at the School of Health and Human Sciences and UNC Greensboro. They have truly made a difference with what they do. They represent UNCG Kinesiology, UNCG Department of Human Development and Family Studies, UNCG Genetic Counseling Graduate Program, UNCG SRT Department, UNCG Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Department of Social Work and Gerontology at UNCG, the Department of Nutrition, the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, and The Bryan School of Business & Economics at UNCG.

Maghen Wagner was crowned Miss Randolph County 2027 on Oct. 10 at Eastern Randolph High School, bringing Maghen's Light of Hope, a mental health and su***de prevention initiative built on her own survival and on the gap in resources she found in her county.
