Cornell researchers have received a seed grant for $250,000 and a chance at a $10 million award from the Laude Institute to support a five-year “moonshot” project aimed at using artificial intelligence to establish a new foundation for trustworthy AI-mediated communication across online platforms.

The interdisciplinary team includes Cornell SC Johnson College of Business professor David Rand, whose research examines how AI can influence beliefs and decision-making. New research from the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business suggests that pressure to meet earnings targets may lead companies to streamline their product portfolios and focus on their core strengths.

Eric Yeung, professor of accounting at the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, and his co-authors analyzed Amazon data representing thousands of firms and millions of consumer reviews. Their findings indicate that earnings pressure can motivate managers to scale back weaker, non-core products while maintaining investment in their strongest offerings.

The tradeoff may be short-term product losses in some categories, but the research suggests this sharper focus can create stronger long-term value for investors. https://vist.ly/583pc

AI has rapidly advanced from a siloed tech initiative to a strategic leadership opportunity.

The use of AI advances leadership by expanding how leaders see options, how quickly they learn and how effectively they align strategy, talent and governance. This new technology has become a multiplier of leadership capacity.

It’s also one of the core capabilities developed in the Cornell Executive MBA NYC program, built for experienced leaders navigating real-time change. https://vist.ly/57xcn

Congrats to Todd Gerarden for making Poets&Quants’ World’s Best 40-Under-40 Graduate Business Professors Of 2026! Gerarden studies how firms, consumers and governments shape the shift toward renewable energy. His recent work studied the effects of U.S. tariffs on the import of Chinese solar panels, tracing the consequences not only for firms and consumers, but also for environmental outcomes.

“The most surprising thing we learned is that while tariffs were harmful to the U.S., a domestic manufacturing subsidy could improve both U.S. and global economic outcomes, because of the environmental benefits of more solar deployment,” he says.

Over the last decade, Poets&Quants has honored more than 540 up-and-coming star MBA and graduate business professors from around the world.
