Last weekend, the Cornell Steel Bridge Team had the honor of competing in the AISC/ASCE Student Steel Bridge Competition in Rochester, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Huge thanks to the RPI team for organizing such an inspiring event!

We’re proud to share our team’s results:
🥈 2nd Place – Stiffness
🥈 2nd Place – Cost Estimation
🥉 3rd Place – Structural Efficiency
🥉 3rd Place – Overall

The competition pushed us to design, fabricate, and assemble a steel bridge under strict design specifications and tight time constraints. It was a true test of our engineering skills, teamwork, and adaptability.

A huge shoutout to every team member and leads for your dedication and grit throughout the year. Thank you as well to our faculty advisor, sponsors, and everyone in the Steel Bridge family for your unwavering support and guidance!

🏗️🌉 Giving Day is HERE! 🌉🏗️
Today is your chance to support the Cornell Steel Bridge Team as we design, fabricate, and compete with our 20+ foot steel bridge at the AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition.

Each year, our team puts engineering into action building a bridge that must support 2,500 lbs while optimizing cost, speed, and structural efficiency.

💡 Why give? Outside support makes this project possible. Your donation helps fund essential materials, fabrication training, and competition costs that allow our team to turn classroom knowledge into real-world engineering.

💰 What your donation can do:
🔩 $10 – Screws, bolts, and nuts
🛠️ $25 – Steel welding wire
🏗️ $50 – One foot of trussing steel or a hand tool
🔧 $100 – Power drill or angle grinder
🎟️ $250 – Sends one member to competition
⚙️ $500 – Machine shop fabrication training for a new member

Huge thanks to Nucor Vulcraft for hosting and giving us an inside look at both the Vulcraft facility and the Nucor Steel Auburn sites last semester!

Seeing the steel joist and bar production process up close was an unforgettable experience. It was incredible to see large scale manufacturing in action and connect our design and engineering learning to real world applications! 🔩⚙️

Experiences like this play a huge role in shaping how we think about our future work and careers, and we are excited to carry these insights forward! 👷
