Students and alumni from our Media Production program attended exclusive screenings at Lucasfilm's Presidio headquarters, SFMoMA, and the Alamo Drafthouse — including the directorial debut of a certain Bay Area basketball legend. 👀

Oh, the places she'll go! Jaden De Souza ’25, MA ’26, is a "first-gen" college student and record-breaking track athlete. After earning her BS in Environmental Science, she used SMC's accelerated one-year MA in Communication to build new skills, find community, and step directly into her career.

Three SMC theater students headed to Stanford earlier this month for the 3rd Annual Bay Area Bread Bowl — a community event where students share their behind-the-scenes theater work with peers and industry professionals.

Kate Conti ’26 presented her Capstone Project Break The System, which she wrote and directed. Tiernan McKevitt ’26 showcased his projection design for Pippin and his backstage photography. Kate Barker ’29 shared her work as a stage carpenter and props artisan.

Congrats to the Class of 2026! 🎓 On May 22, more than 450 graduates crossed the stage at Saint Mary's Stadium surrounded by the people who cheered them on the whole way. Shoutout to our student speakers and a very special thank you to Matthew Dellavedova '13 for sending the newest Gaels alumni off in style.

Every year, the Office of Marketing & Communications hires student workers to support content creation and social media management under the guidance of the Social Media and Digital Content Manager.
This year, we said goodbye to our incredible student team — Sarah and Gianna, who walked at Undergraduate Commencement on May 22, and McKenna, who walked at Graduate Commencement on May 21 as a proud double Gael. Alongside full-time Social Media and Digital Content Manager Sabrina (Class of 2022), this team has been entirely Gael-made.

Saint Mary's first-ever Oasis Music Festival took over the De La Salle Lawn on May 2 — live music, local food, lawn games, and good company. DJ Blake Adolphson '26, Peyton Shay, Indigo Elephant, and headliner Spiritual Cramp brought the energy, and Gaels brought the mosh pit.

Congratulations to our Class of 2026 Valedictorian: Melody Ng '26 🎓!

A double major in Theatre and Politics, and with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies, Melody has kept herself busy as a Gael. She has directed, stage-managed, and starred in several SMC theatre shows, including the recent spring production of Pippin. She has served as class chair for Associated Students, been a peer mentor to first-years, and was a Social Justice Advocate with the Intercultural Center.

As she looks toward the future, Melody plans to continue performing and eventually attend law school. For her, giving the valedictory address was a chance to reflect on her own journey. “Being an immigrant has really allowed me to be conscientious of my intersecting identities while really seeing and celebrating other people for theirs,” she says. “That’s what I hope Commencement will be: a moment to celebrate each other, and all of who we are.”
