One week until Dr. Emily Sneff’s visit to Murray State on Thursday, September 10!

The Murray State Phi Alpha Theta and History Club is hosting a Meet & Greet with Dr. Sneff!

This is a great way to ask Dr. Sneff questions about her research, career path, and any advice she may have for budding historians!

The main event is Dr. Sneff’s Lecture “When the Declaration of Independence Was News”

📍 Wrather Auditorium.

Dr. Sneff’s talk will illuminate the many conflicting views toward the movement for American independence and will enable us to better understand the revolutionary document on which the colonial struggle for freedom was based.

Thanks to the generosity of the family of Murray State alumnus Sid Easley, the lecture is free and open to the public. A Reception and Book Signing will follow the lecture.

Calling all history teachers!

The Department of History invites educators K-12 to register for a half-day PD on the Declaration of Independence!

This small-scale workshop offers a content panel and an instructional strategies session while fostering reflective practice and meaningful connection among participants. Lunch and PD Certificate provided.

From the Declaration's drafting to its Atlantic world context, using storyboards or connecting to women's history, come brainstorm how you can reshape your lesson plans on this most important primary source!

All sessions led by Department of History faculty.

Dr. Brian Clardy, professor of history at Murray State University, remained active in regional and statewide media over the summer by providing historical perspectives and political analysis on issues affecting Kentucky and the nation.

On Saturday, August 29, Emmi and Dylan from Dr. Lindner’s HIS 400: Senior Research Seminar course visited a number of historic sites in Hopkinsville, guided by Alissa Keller, executive director of the Museums of Hopkinsville-Christian County. The theme of this semester’s class is the History of Death, and the students were shown a variety of artifacts held at the Pennyroyal Area Museum, including mourning outfits, embalming equipment, funeral announcements, and demographic records from the nineteenth to twentieth centuries, which the students are planning to use in their research papers. The students also toured historic cemeteries in Hopkinsville and helped preserve history by cleaning graves at the Union Benevolent Cemetery #5, which is a historic Black cemetery in Hopkinsville.
