A Prestigious International Honor for a Spartan Legend

Luis Alonzo Garcia, longtime director of MSU's Farm Worker Student Services, has been honored with the prestigious Ohtli Award by the Government of Mexico.

For 25 years, Garcia poured his heart into leading MSU’s Farmworker Student Services program, transforming the lives of countless students from seasonal farmworker backgrounds - many from the Immokalee area. His deep belief in students who faced systemic barriers has left a permanent legacy on Michigan State University.

The Ohtli Award is one of the highest honors bestowed by Mexico, recognizing individuals who have dedicated their lives to paving the road and opening doors for Mexican communities abroad.

Please join us in congratulating Luis Alonzo Garcia on this incredible, well-deserved recognition!
