David Morelock, beloved director of Loyola Opera Theatre from 1994 to 2009, passed away peacefully at Lambeth House on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the age of 94.

A native of Memphis, TN, Morelock was a singer and French teacher early in his career and loved the French operatic repertoire. His first directing assignment was "Les pêcheurs de perles" in 1971 for the New Orleans Opera, where he would go on to stage numerous productions over the next 40 years. Morelock shepherded dozens of productions at Loyola and helped to guide emerging opera talent from the academic setting to the professional stage.
