Got Halloween plans? 🎃👻 Look no further than the Freret Street Festival!

Our students will perform throughout the day on the Valence Street stage, and help manage lighting and sound for the annual event. Students also booked all of the festival’s acts this year for the first time as part of their work with Loyola’s student-run Howl Entertainment initiative.

The student acts on the Valence Street stage include Kodjo, Vaish, Tye Chris, Remie Revel, Rosie’s Haven, The Dewdrops, fish band! and Lizette Camarena. In addition, Louis Michot & Swamp Magic and the Pinettes Brass Band will perform on the stage.

Guest conductor and Grammy winner Carlos Miguel Prieto brought musical excellence and humor to his Loyola master class yesterday, with advice like, “If you see a crescendo, my strong suggestion is that you observe it.” 😂

We are thrilled to expand our relationship with community partner, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), through prestigious guest appearances like this. A former Music Director of the LPO from 2006 to 2023, Carlos is conducting the LPO’s Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 tomorrow evening.

This exchange extends Loyola’s connection with the LPO, with our venue halls hosting LPO rehearsals, performances, and the weekly LPO Fellowes music education programming.
