Fordham Law graduate Karl P. Kilb III ’95 JD was recently Knighted by Archbishop Emeritus of New York Timothy M. Cardinal Dolan during the Mass of Investiture at St. Patrick’s Cathedral as a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem – Eastern Lieutenancy.

Kilb, a corporate law partner at Dunnington Bartholow & Miller LLP, co-founded Crescite Innovation Corporation—an organization focused on faith and technology that works closely with the global Catholic community and Catholic education initiatives.

A lifelong musician and budding music industry professional, Andrew Shulov ’30 JD has spent years thinking about the business behind the music, from how creative rights are licensed and monetized to how artists are compensated for their work. Now a student in Fordham Law’s evening program, he is continuing to build his career in the music industry while pursuing a legal education he hopes to use to advocate for artists and protect their creative work.

“There is no doubt that as technology evolves, so will the need to update the legal framework that governs its interplay with the arts,” Shulov said. “Whether it’s the way music is consumed or the way music is created, I want to be a part of influencing the laws that govern these advancements. I want to do so in a way that empowers artists and incentivizes them to continue creating the soundtracks to our lives.”

What if Supreme Court reform meant looking beyond the Court itself?

In her new book, The Shadow Court: Rescuing Democracy from the Supreme Court, Fordham Law Professor Julie Suk proposes a new model for constitutional democracy designed to broaden public participation in constitutional lawmaking.

Suk discussed her proposal with Columbia Law Professor Kate Andrias at Fordham Law’s Leonard F. Manning Chair Lecture. Presented in conjunction with the Brennan Center for Justice, the event examined approaches to Supreme Court reform and lessons from constitutional democracies around the world.
