Ahead of the first week of classes, Fordham Law students fanned out across New York City to put the law into action for local communities. Approximately 170 incoming and upper-division Fordham Law gained hands-on experience through 10 distinct initiatives—including attending criminal court watching trainings, assembling care packages for newly arrived immigrants, and helping beautify Central Park—all as part of the Public Interest Resource Center (PIRC)’s annual Day of Service.

While law schools throughout the country are grappling with artificial intelligence use among students, Fordham Law School has met the challenge head on—developing a comprehensive strategy to guide students when considering using AI tools.

As part of the fall 2026 semester orientation program, Fordham Law Associate Dean for Administration Ron Lazebnik, Professor Aniket Kesari, and Professor Katherine Hughes held sessions for incoming JD students on best practices using AI, while Anthony Agolia, senior director of international and non-JD programs, trained incoming LLM and MSL students. Separate sessions were also held by Dean Lazebnik and acting Associate Dean Maggie Wittlin for returning students.

Congratulations to Fordham Law Professor Chinmayi Sharma, who has been named to the inaugural cohort of Top 50 Legal Innovators in Academia by the National Law Review and Wickard for her work designing a law and technology competition. This recognition honors educators, administrators, researchers, and academic leaders who are helping shape the future of legal education through innovation, technology, leadership, scholarship, and new approaches to legal training.

Professor Sharma conceived, developed, pitched, and secured Fordham Law School's approval to host the Fordham Law ACTech Challenge in partnership with the Atlantic Council, a first-of-its-kind annual competition and curricular program focused on artificial intelligence and emerging technology governance.

Fordham Law School recently welcomed students, faculty, staff, and alumni to campus for the annual Compliance Colloquium and Rams Compliance Homecoming reception.

As the sole in-person requirement of the otherwise fully online Master of Studies in Law (MSL) in Corporate Compliance program, the intensive multi-day event allowed participating MSL students to test classroom concepts, refine presentation skills, and build essential legal and regulatory expertise. The gathering also officially launched the year-long celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Corporate Ethics and Compliance program at Fordham Law.

Its 10th anniversary reflects a significant milestone in the Center’s history and marks a continuing commitment to rigorous scholarship and meaningful dialogue on race and equality.

The final score didn’t go the Bronx Bombers’ way, but the energy in the stands made the night a total hit!

After studying art history at New York University and working at an art auction house, Nawoon Yoon ’28 JD developed an interest in the legal issues shaping the art and cultural sectors. This summer, she interned across the street from the Law School at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where she reviewed commercial agreements and helped coordinate the Counsels’ Council pro bono program.

“When I decided on law, I wanted to stay in New York, close to the art, media, and cultural scene I already knew, and Fordham stood out to me,” Yoon said. “So when the chance to intern at Lincoln Center came up this summer ... it felt like such a natural fit.”

Fordham Law faculty and staff have officially welcomed 1,604 new and returning students across the day and evening JD programs and the LLM, MSL, and SJD programs for their first week of classes—making Fordham one of the largest law schools in the United States. We cannot wait to see what these will achieve during their time here.

As a new chapter begins for Fordham Law’s newest students this week, members of the Class of 2026 share a few words of advice after completing their own Fordham Law journey in May.

From across the United States and around the world, a new class of future lawyers begins the next chapter at Fordham Law.

Incoming day, evening, international, non-JD, and transfer students heard from Dean Joseph Landau, faculty, staff, upper-year students, and esteemed alumni and socialized with one another in various programs during Orientation Week.

More than 440 JD students make up the incoming class of 1Ls, arriving from 34 states and 142 colleges and universities, with ages ranging from 21 to 54. The incoming LLM Class of 2027 brings an equally global perspective, with more than 100 students representing 42 countries.

Born in Chicago and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Sanaa Akindele ’28 JD spent her summer interning remotely with the Abolitionist Law Center (ALC), an advocacy nonprofit supporting litigation for individuals facing human rights and other abuses. In her role as a legal intern, she researched Pennsylvania and international law for landmark cases, drafted legal memoranda, and participated in strategic litigation planning.

“A large part of my orientation at ALC focused not only on legal research, but also on developing the interpersonal skills required to be an effective lawyer,” Akindele recalled. “Because many of our cases involve interacting with and interviewing incarcerated individuals and people who have experienced complex trauma, I have learned how to better advocate for clients through both the research I do and the way I communicate with clients and others to help them seek relief.”
