Residents should be prepared for the potential of strong to severe thunderstorms later today and tonight. Forecasts indicate storms could develop after 8 PM, bringing the risk of damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, and isolated tornadoes.

Now is a good time to review your severe weather plan, ensure weather notifications are enabled on your devices, and stay tuned to local forecasts throughout the evening.

Please use caution if traveling tonight and be ready to seek shelter if warnings are issued.

Stronger storms are on track to develop early this afternoon and continue into the evening hours across the area. Damaging hail, wind, and a brief tornado are possible. These storms will also bring potential for flash flooding, so if you have outdoor plans, stay weather-aware!

The chance of a tornado developing this evening has climbed in east-central Nebraska (Omaha/Council Bluffs/Lincoln/Wahoo).

A quick look at our history suggests this is the highest forecast probability of a tornado in the Omaha area since June 2014.
