Within the College of Performing Arts (CoPA), our focus is to cultivate a vibrant atmosphere that combines abundant possibilities for scholarship, creativity, free expression and intellectual curiosity with real world experience. Nowhere is this more evident than through programs such as our Screen Acting degree in partnership with Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, the first of its kind in the country; our exciting partnership with Cirque du Soleil for technical theatre; and our new Master of Music program in Keyboard Collaborative Arts. Our faculty represent a group of consummate professionals, connected to numerous industry organizations within the arts. These people, accomplished artists in their own right, are dedicated to helping students reach their dreams and aspirations, whether they are pianists, dancers, stage or screen actors, composers, opera singers or students of any one of the numerous programs the college offers.

For this spooky season, we're highlighting CoPA's Master Electrician, Janelle Favreau, who also contributes to haunted house designs for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood!⁠ 💡⁠

2026 is her eighth year with HHN and she is a lighting designer for the Dead, Deader, Deadest house 🎃🔬🧪⁠

We also got the chance to chat with her about incorporating her industry experience into her CoPA job, teaching students tech and design skills, and her background in theme parks and the performing arts.⁠

Tomorrow's pre-concert student Q&A with Grammy® and Latin Grammy®-winning artist Gaby Moreno still has seats available! In addition, the first 50 students who sign up get a free ticket to her performance at 7:30 p.m.⁠ 🎤⁠

Moreno’s work spans music, film, television, and theater, including a recent run as "Persephone" in Hadestown on Broadway, co-writing the theme song to Parks and Recreation, a Grammy® for Best Latin Pop Album, and much more! Moreno also serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.⁠

We are so proud of CoPA alum Leah McKendrick for writing, directing, and starring in the Netflix smash hit "Voicemails for Isabelle"! 📞🍿⁠

Leah graduated from Chapman in 2008 with a degree in Theatre Performance and we love getting to see her incredible accomplishments since then.⁠

This Homecoming weekend, we got to screen "Voicemails for Isabelle" on campus with a special introduction from Leah.⁠

What’s one work or move you would use to describe your New Collaborations piece?⁠

New Collaborations is a recently created dance department show, this November, completely dedicated to our new first year class!⁠
⁠
This show is interactive and the dancers will take the audience from the Hilbert Museum of California Art and make their way dancing to Sandi Simon Center for Dance.⁠

There are so many different works highlighting our dancers performing choreography from both guest artist and our own dance faculty!⁠

Congratulations to Screen Acting professor John Benitz on the digital release of Behind the Lines, the powerful documentary he directed! 🎥

The film is available to watch now on Prime Video and Apple TV, and explores the search for extraordinary letters from every American conflict. It includes letters preserved in the Center for American War Letters at Chapman’s Leatherby Libraries ✉️

Benitz’s work on Behind the Lines is a testament to the caliber of educators who make up CoPA, and the real-world experience they bring to the classroom.
