Founded in 1963, the University of West Florida is a vibrant, distinctive institute of higher learning with undergraduate, graduate and targeted research programs. With multiple locations in Northwest Florida, the University serves a student population of more than 15,000. Dedicated to helping students realize their full potential, UWF favors small class sizes with quality teacher-scholars who deliver personalized, innovative, hands-on learning and leadership opportunities. The University of West Florida seeks to educate, inform and provide updated information on UWF news and activities through its social media platforms. While UWF encourages interaction among Argos across the globe, the Community Commenting Guidelines are in place to maintain a respectful, positive online environment.

2. UWF's intent is not to create a public forum, but to maintain a moderated online discussion directly relating to topics posted by UWF.

3. All comments made by social media users reflect the opinions of the users and not necessarily those of the University of West Florida. By posting, users agree to these UWF Social Media Community Guidelines.

4. UWF reviews comments made on University-affiliated social media accounts and maintains the right to moderate or remove comments that:
a. Contain misinformation. Contain profanity or vulgarity. Contain links to third-party websites or content. Constitute threats, harassment, bullying, defamation, obscenity or unauthorized commercial speech, as defined by applicable state or federal law. Encourages illegal activity. Compromises the safety or security of the public or public systems. Contains disparaging personal remarks or acrimony towards another person. Is deemed to be harmful to others in our online or on-campus community, that may negatively impact the reputation of the University of West Florida or is viewed as disparaging the work or actions of others in our campus community. Violates a copyright, trademark or other legal ownership interest of any other party. Violates Florida or federal law.

5. UWF maintains the right to:
a. Post social media content without enabling the comment feature. Deactivate the comment feature on a post at any time. Archive all posts and related comments in conformance with Florida law and University regulations.

6. Content shared or posted on University-affiliated social media accounts may be subject to Florida’s Public Records Law.

In 1976, Allan Cowart, a professor of management at UWF, recognized the growing need for entrepreneurial guidance in the Pensacola area, eventually leading to the creation of Florida SBDC at UWF. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, the SBDC has spread throughout Florida with over 40 offices statewide.

The UWF Office of Military Services, in partnership with the Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz Center for Leadership and the UWF Center for Cybersecurity and AI, will host the second annual Leadership in the Age of AI conference followed by a UWF Veterans Day Observance on Friday, Nov. 6, in the UWF Conference Center. The free event, sponsored by PenAir Credit Union, will examine the impact of artificial intelligence on modern leadership with a special Veterans Day observance honoring those who have served.

Dr. James Arruda has spent decades researching and creating noninvasive techniques for early detection of Alzheimer's disease. In April, the UWF Usha Kundu, MD College of Health professor received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, bringing his EEG system one step closer to clinical use.
