Part 4 of this vanishing edge renovation, and Part 2 of 2 on the shotcrete.

Bill Drakeley is back on site. The old vanishing edge has been shot with a larger edge and more steel, and the box behind him is filled with concrete. Now it’s curing. A soaker hose stays on for seven to ten days to build compressive strength, following ACI protocol so the new material bonds to the old concrete wall and lasts.

Proper curing is the step that decides whether shotcrete performs for decades or cracks in a few years. Want to learn it from the people who do it? Bill is teaching at the Watershape U Fall Session in San Diego:

Part 3 of this vanishing edge renovation, and Part 1 of 2 on the shotcrete.

Bill Drakeley is walking the back side of an old dry-mix pool. The concrete is weak, but the owner doesn’t want to tear it out. So the crew removed the worst of it and added new shotcrete to the top two to three feet, locked into the old shell. Next comes veneer stone and the tile line for the vanishing edge. This is how you keep a poorly built pool running the way it was meant to.
