What does your health start with? ❤️

Maybe it’s moving your body, getting enough rest, caring for your mental health, staying connected or simply making time for the things you love.

At CHHS, we know health is more than health care. It’s about the whole person and the many factors that help us feel, live and thrive.

When extreme heat becomes a health risk, how can research help communities prepare? ☀️

SDSU researchers are working with farmworker communities in California’s Imperial Valley to map rural heat islands and better understand how extreme heat affects those who work outdoors.

The goal? Use research and community knowledge to develop strategies that can help protect health as temperatures rise.

The Rural Heat Islands project brings together SDSU, UC Santa Barbara, UC Cooperative Extension and Lideres Campesinas to advance climate action and environmental justice. 🌎

This is research in action: addressing a real-world public health challenge alongside the communities most affected.

What does health equity look like when research centers the people it aims to serve? 🌎

SDSU is leading an international research collaboration that broadens the understanding of s*x workers’ health beyond HIV and s*xually transmitted infections to examine mental health, reproductive health, violence, stigma, discrimination, workplace safety, access to health care and more.

Led by CHHS researcher Shira Goldenberg, the four-paper series published in *The Lancet Public Health* represents the most comprehensive synthesis of evidence on s*x workers’ health in more than a decade.

The research also demonstrates the power of community-informed research, with s*x workers and s*x worker-led organizations contributing as authors and collaborators throughout the process. 🧡

Strong teams make big goals possible. ❤️🖤

Our CHHS Executive Leadership Team recently gathered for a retreat centered on connection, collaboration and the future of the college.

Through thoughtful discussions and CliftonStrengths activities, our leaders explored how we can build on our individual and collective strengths to move CHHS forward and make meaningful progress on our strategic priorities.

Thank you to Dr. Kimberly Giardina, Executive Director of the SDSU Academy for Professional Excellence, for leading an engaging and insightful session, and to La Shon Smith for making the day possible.

We left energized, aligned and ready for what’s ahead!
