On the morning of September 11, 2001, Jodi walked out of World Trade Center 7 at the exact moment the first plane struck the North Tower. What followed were days of survival β and a question she couldn't shake: what do we owe each other as Americans, and how do we live up to it?
Nearly two decades later, Jodi answered that question in In Its Shadow: A 9/11 Memoir β a firsthand account of the attacks that moves beyond survival to examine civic responsibility, democratic values, and what it means to be a grateful, engaged citizen. The book was awarded the 2020 Readers' Favorite International Bronze Medal in Government/Politics.
Jodi was a JFK University alumna, a fraud prevention pioneer, a mentor to countless young people she called her "kids," and a woman who believed deeply that life is a gift β and that we must give back. She passed away in August 2025, but her words, and her story, remain.
On this anniversary, we remember Jodi and all those whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001. ποΈ
