Today, we proudly unveiled the Filipino American History Mural, a powerful tribute to the Filipino farmworkers who helped shape the American labor movement and the generations of Filipino Americans whose contributions continue to inspire.

What began as a student-led call for recognition has become a lasting symbol of advocacy, representation and community. Brought to life by artist Francesca “ChiChai” Mateo and the dedication of our Filipino Alumni Network SJSU, students, alumni and community partners, this mural ensures these stories will be seen, shared and remembered for generations to come.

Our history. Our stories. Our legacy.

Three years ago, a group of San José State students envisioned a campus where Filipino American history would be seen, honored and remembered. Tomorrow, that vision becomes a reality. 💙💛

As recently highlighted by NBC Bay Area, the Filipino American History Mural celebrates the contributions of Filipino farmworkers to the labor movement and reflects the power of student advocacy, cultural pride and representation.

Join us tomorrow as we unveil this meaningful addition to our Spartan campus!

Fact Check: SJSU Student Outcomes

The claims that SJSU has a high dropout rate is FALSE.

According to the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard:

• 77% of SJSU students graduate
• 14% transfer to continue their education

That means 91% of Spartans complete or continue their higher education journey, including the 14,300+ graduates we celebrated this past year.

For Valeria Medina and Monica Garibay, SJSU Chicanx Latinx Student Success Center (Centro) is more than a campus resource. It is a place to find belonging, celebrate culture and support students with shared experiences. Through mentorship, advocacy and community, they are helping fellow Spartans find their place and thrive at SJSU.

At Centro, their experiences become support for others, from helping first-generation students navigate campus resources to mentoring students as they build confidence, join clubs and grow into their own identities.
