If there is one thing to say about Cat Tang, it is that she has left a lasting impact on the SJSU ALASC. Cat first joined the ALASC in 2023 as a social media assistant, then became an event coordinator in 2024, and finally stepped into the role of chair in 2025. Cat has gone above and beyond in all of her roles and duties, helping the chapter to win the ALA's Student Chapter of the Year award twice in 2024 and 2025, as well as win second place in 2026. A hard-working, dedicated, and passionate leader, we will all miss Cat dearly, and wish her well in her future endeavors- she will go on to do great things!

April is Deaf History Month, and this year, the SJSU ALASC has chosen to highlight a trailblazer in the Deaf community: librarian and activist Alice Lougee Hagemeyer. After becoming deaf at the age of 3 1/2, Alice Lougee Hagemeyer spent the majority of her library career championing the Deaf community, advocating for federal funding for library services specifically for the deaf and hard of hearing, and creating awareness in the library community of the needs of the Deaf community. An ALA Honorary Membership holder, Alice Lougee Hagemeyer truly deserves the title of trailblazer for her activism and work, which continues to this day.
