On Tuesday, May 6, Tarleton State University’s College of Education honored the latest inductees to the Dr. Don Beach Crystal Apple Society. The annual ceremony celebrates educators who have made a profound impact on the lives of their students and institutions. Nominees are submitted by colleagues, former students, families, and community members before the ceremony.

“This event carries forward Dr. Beach’s legacy by recognizing educators whose influence extends well beyond the classroom and whose care, commitment, and belief in students continue to shape lives in meaningful ways.” - Dr. Lesley Leach

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, highlighting the important role mental health professionals play in supporting children and families.

𝑀𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝐴𝑙𝑒𝑥𝑖𝑠, 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑟 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑇𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑜𝑛 𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑒'𝑠 𝐶𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝐶ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑 𝑊𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔.

Alexis Harrison holds licensure as a Clinical Social Worker in Texas (TX #103742) and is a PhD candidate in Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake University.

She serves as a child and family therapist with the Tarleton Center for Child Well-Being, embedded as a clinical social worker within the Cook Children's pediatric primary care setting. Across these roles, she provides integrated behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and families, supporting concerns related to anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, parenting challenges, and life transitions.

Alexis' professional experience includes work in a child advocacy center, inpatient psychiatry at a children's hospital, a county hospital emergency department, an adolescent residential treatment center, and a legal aid office. She also has experience as a forensic interviewer and expert witness, supporting children and families impacted by abuse, violence, and complex trauma.
