Nine Swarthmore students have been selected for the President’s Sustainability Research Fellowship (PSRF), a hands-on program focused on tackling real sustainability challenges on campus.

Through this yearlong experience, students collaborate with faculty and staff mentors to research, develop, and implement projects that make a meaningful impact. The program has contributed to initiatives like zero waste efforts, the restoration of Crum Woods, and the development of sustainable purchasing practices.

Njideka Akunyili Crosby ’04 H’19, acclaimed visual artist and Swarthmore alumna, is featured in a recent Harper’s Bazaar article on her latest major work, The Obamas: Springing Forth. The painting marks the first official portrait of Barack and Michelle Obama together and is part of a larger series of newly commissioned works for the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, set to open to the public on Juneteenth.

A double major in biology and studio art at Swarthmore, Crosby is known for her richly layered, collage-based paintings that explore identity, memory, and representation through deeply detailed visual narratives.
