Teacher support for economics education and entrepreneurship

That is exactly what happened on Tuesday, when Marlee and Lisa guided our teachers through the benefits of unlearning. Educators were invited to look at familiar methods with fresh eyes, focus on the process over the final answer, and adapt their instruction for the world today’s students are growing up in.

What a night at Zombienomics! Our teachers were dead set on learning, and it showed. They dug in, stayed fully engaged, and used economic terms across several hands-on activities to help their groups survive the zombie apocalypse. Thank you to everyone who participated. You were a grave success!

On Thursday, Angel and Lisa led a workshop on creating meaningful classroom discussions, with special guest Jodi Pushkin from Newspapers in Education.

Socratic seminars and discourse talk stems were the most frequently adopted strategies. One of our participants, teacher Stacie W., said this workshop provided “great ideas to increase student discourse and questioning.”

Just a few highlights from 9 innings of learning last night at our "Price of the Pitch" workshop! ⚾ Teachers debated who pays for the stadium, sequenced the Rays’ history, and so much more. With the Rays in the ALCS, this one’s a home run for engagement for our students! Thanks to our presenters Andrew, Adam and Grow Financial for being our sponsor!

Explore the economics of the Rays stadium project, covering topics such as: who pays, who benefits, and what the real score is! Then join us for a session on civil discourse, where you’ll learn how to help students share ideas respectfully and think critically, even when they don’t see eye to eye.

Looking back on a great end to the week, both at the Stavros Center and on the road!

On Thursday, teachers dove into NotebookLM and discovered how Gemini can make classroom and teacher life a little easier. Thanks to Angel and Brian for teaching us the ins and outs of the tools of Google!
Out in Polk County, Carrie led workshops on behalf of the Stavros Center on how AI can amplify our classrooms!
