Celebrating excellence at the Bronx Community College 2026 Graduation Awards Ceremony 🎓✨

From student achievement to leadership, today’s ceremony highlighted the dedication and perseverance of our incredible students.

Today’s speakers included President Larry D. Johnson, Provost Luis Montenegro, and Salutatorian Olivia Casillas:

✨Provost Montenegro: “Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on your remarkable achievements. Your academic distinction reflects not only intellectual ability, but also the discipline, perseverance and commitment you've demonstrated throughout your journey.”

✨President Johnson: “When you don that beautiful cap and gown, you're representing resilience and all of the challenges you had to overcome to get here. We celebrate you.“

🎓 Olivia Casillas, Salutatorian: “When I decided to attend BCC, I was looking for a place where I could start building a future that felt true to who I am.... BCC gave me the tools, the confidence, and the community to do that.”

Bronx Community College alumni are making their mark across the Bronx and beyond.

Two graduates were named finalists in the 2026 BX Factor Small Business Challenge, hosted during Bronx Week by the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (BOEDC).

Oscar Martinez, co-founder of Wisdom of Age, earned the competition’s top prize with a luxury knitwear brand rooted in craftsmanship and culture. Yasiris Ortiz, founder and CEO of Spin & Learn was also recognized for delivering table tennis-based programming to more than 12,000 New York City students.

Their achievements highlight the impact of BCC graduates as innovators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Bronx Community College is now accepting nominations for the 2027 Distinguished Alumni Award!

This award honors BCC alumni whose achievements, leadership, and service reflect the excellence of the College, inspiring our students and community. Recipients are recognized as role models, with portraits displayed in North Hall and the Library.

Faculty, staff, alumni, and retirees are encouraged to nominate individuals who demonstrate lasting impact and integrity.

Eligible nominees must be BCC alumni (graduated or completed 30+ credits at least 10 years ago) and able to attend the induction ceremony.

Students in Bronx Community College’s Media and Digital Film Production Program recently explored the latest in video technology during a special showcase with B&H Photo Video Pro Audio and industry vendors in the TV Studio at Meister Hall.

The event featured hands-on demonstrations of professional film and production equipment, opportunities to connect with industry experts, and raffles with exciting prizes including cameras, microphones, iPads, and more.

Experiential learning opportunities like this connect classroom instruction to industry practice and help our students build skills and confidence, and develop professional networks.

Bronx Community College is proud to announce award-winning journalist Pedro Rivera as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Commencement Ceremony.

Born in the Bronx, Rivera’s story reflects the resilience and ambition of our community. Over the course of his career, he has reported and anchored in newsrooms across the country, earning recognition for his ability to bring clarity and context to complex stories. Today, he co-anchors Eyewitness News This Morning and Eyewitness News Mornings at 10 on ABC7NY.

As a journalist and storyteller, Rivera is committed to elevating diverse voices and perspectives—values that align closely with the mission of Bronx Community College and will resonate with our graduating class.
